I have used MCEBuddy for a long time to convert .ts recordings to .MP4 files to save space. I use to be able to go to What's New and play recordings that had been converted to .MP4. Now when I select PLAY, it goes back to What's New.

I installed the 32-bit version of FFDSHOW thinking it was a decoder issue, but I am still not getting videos to play. This was working fine until I updated. Logs attached.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like a filters/splitters issue. The graph for the mp4 files isn't being built with anything in it, hence the lack of playback.

Yes, but as soon as you start messing with decoders you run the risk of breaking things. Which is probably what's happened here Smile

As for fixing it, I'd start with checking you still have a splitter that can handle mp4 files? Perhaps either the LAV or MPC-HC one? You can also use something like GraphStudio to test things. Drop a file into it and see if it can render it. If it can, chances are NPVR will too.

When you look at your logs, the bit to pay attention to is:

Code:
2012-01-26 03:55:52.792    [DEBUG][1]    Graph filter list:
2012-01-26 03:55:52.792    [DEBUG][1]     - Default DirectSound Device
2012-01-26 03:55:52.792    [DEBUG][1]     - EVR Renderer

A working graph would have splitters and decoders in there too, something like:

Code:
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]    Graph filter list:
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]     - ReClock Audio Renderer
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]     - EVR Renderer
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]     - AC3Filter
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]     - Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
2012-01-26 11:41:59.931    [DEBUG][1]     - LAV Splitter
2012-01-26 11:41:59.932    [DEBUG][1]     - C:\Videos\Sample Videos\TestVideo.mkv

I just tried MONOGRAM GraphStudio. It couldn't open either .ts or .mp4 files. Looking for another test.

You need to use
File > Render Media File

If it won't render ts or mp4 you will have to install a splitter
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

If you don't know how to install splitters and codecs I recommend a codec pack. Many people don't like them because originally they were pretty bad but they have gotten pretty good. I use k-lite standard http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm but there are several others like sharkeys and CCCP others prefer.

Installing ffdshow manually note you want the ffdshow tryouts not the old ffdshow. With ffdshow depending on the pack you maybe have to turn off white listing of the NextPVR app, and you probably will have to enable the option allowing it process mpeg-2 (I use the libavcodec library)

In regards to FFDShow, I got this...

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

32-bit version needed for NPVR. Works good as far as I can tell.

I used to be really against codec packs, but for the last year or so have been using Hoborg's SAF 6 - with a couple of minor tweeks which works very well with NPVR
