The point I'm trying to make is a download from far away can be quicker than a download which is local (not the other way around). It all comes down to how fast the connection is to the end-point regardless of how close it is geographically.

I ran a test and downloaded a 700MB image from the Microsoft downloads site, it took around 10 minutes. At peak the System plugin told me I was running at around 67 Mb/s - not possible with my broadband connection.

I can download files of only a few megabytes and they take forever depending on server load. I still don't understand this aspect for general usage even for tech type people as it doesn't really explain anything about anything.

Explain that to the end users how to do that.

Well it's either a bug, or your 'connection' transferred data at that rate within the one second timeframe of the monitoring. Perhaps talking to another machine on your network, or to the router, etc. All it's doing is showing the cumulative data rate in and out from that machine. I don't see it as much different to the network monitor that's built into Windows Task Manager.

I'm not a programmer but I thought this info all just came from the BIOS? I currently use a separate application to monitor this kind of info but checking it requires switching NPVR to Windowed (so I can view the application window running behind) then switching back to fullscreen. Not very elegant :-)

The tool I use is a freeware product called HWINFO. A quick look suggests they have an SDK (http://www.hwinfo.com/sdk.html), maybe there's some sort of API that wouldn't be too hard to integrate?

Cheers!

Just as a side note I found the Network info along with the CPU info very useful just the other day in determining that I had a problem on the NMT after using WebRadio for a few hours (that I wouldn't have even known about without these new features), it turned out that a patch sub made to fix a problem with the NMT after playing videos (that I hadn't installed yet) also fixed this problem Wink

Some info on the subject (no, it is not trivial as much as I would like to be able to monitor temps.)

It's a shame that the PIN number shows in clear text when you are typing it in to the prompt - or did I miss something...

As an interim, you could install a password font like http://www.black2colour.com/true-type-fo...-password/ and update pin.xml (or just change the colour if you can count keystrokes)

I'll tweak it. It was originally written for the Videos+ plugin (to unlock the decent half of your collection once the kids were off to bed) and I never imagined it being used when sets of eyeballs that were not meant to know the pin would be in the room.

Big Grin I remember that was one of my whishes... Now I'd also like to monitor cpu temp, fan speed etc. Please see if you can accomplish that, would be very kind of you Smile

lol nicely worded. Wink Can't imagine what you refer too!

I'm still using your first system plugin from last year but will give this one a go. Thanks for the effort.
