I was wondering about this. I know gbpvr used TCP remoting to communicate with the recording service and I assume that's the same for npvr. I know nothing about VirtualBox but that does sound like it could be something to investigate.

It happens on MPC homecinema too, so it may not be anything to with npvr.

I've only used Virtual Box once or twice, but if it works like many other VM solutions it sets up some virtual network adapters with other IP addresses for comminucation among virtual machines and between virtual machines and the host. I realize this is just another variation on what ttfitz already said... the point is though that when those alternate network adapters come up, they change the way TCP/IP works on the host and other communication can be disrupted. I have run into this many times with many applications, it has nothing to do with NPVR. On VMWare Server, I have resolved this problem by installing it with Bridge Mode-only networking so that only one virtual network adapter is created which is bridged to the physical adapter, and no new IP network is created. If Virtual Box offers the same networking configuration, use it. You might also be able to simply disable the extra network adapters somewhere in the VBox configuration.

I think it might be related to DirectX video and ring 0/1 getting hooked in host mode. My video will stop on NextPVR on the PC when the UAC elevate prompt comes up.
