I am impatiently waiting for the arrival of an HP usb ir receiver and MCE remote ordered from eBay. I have gotten the suggestion to purchase this $20 package, and customization/hack input from other threads. I foresee the possibility of many hours of learning, installation, configuration, and customizing of controls both in and outside of nPVR. The Wiki just describes the Hauppage 45 button remote.

I would like to see on the Wiki a simple, well thought out, and non geek speak approach for others to follow if they choose this option. I would like others input to help me with this setup, and help with documenting this approach for the Wiki.

Good/bad idea? Any takers?

I wish to start new with this. Will research old wiki.. I shouldn't need to research old info, but will.. Parts came in. HP usb receiver is recognized by win7-64 as Microsoft eHome infrared transceiver. Have also stopped Hauppage IR app, and removed it from Win startup.

I am staying focused on this thread as I can use it as notes for wiki page development. All input is appreciated!!

Next step is to install batteries in the remote and see what happens.. Hope event ghost recognizes the device..

nPvr is able to use the remote so far as I am jamming on more Pink Floyd and remote is controlling Music Box4 perfectly so far. Assume that ir commands are now handled via the win registry, as Hauppage ir software is off.

Also, guess that this remote is not X10 compatible as event ghost does not recognize it!

Open EventGhost, right-click Autostart then select "Add plugin...". There's one for MCE Remote. Can't advise further as don't use any remotes with my PC.

I had to select the MCE remote option, as the MCE vista/Win7 option requested a service to be installed. Upon doing so, Event Ghost's log shows errors and that the service is already running. Deleted the plug in and installed the MCE remote plug in... That worked..

Still a way to go!

Hiya Grampz,

great thoughts here. Do not let the slow uptake on wiki stuff put you off Big Grin

That is the wiki way Wink

My humble advice is that we would break down what is happening here on the wiki.

I believe that you are looking at 2 distinct things that need to be made clear. If you have some help to understand it then you will be able to make that clear to everyone else:

Use the old wiki as reference but that does not mean that it has to be done that way. (and that is no criticism for anyone that has pointed you to the old wiki which is a great ref) But now we have a new wiki for NextPVR.

Though a remote will work with a blaster, they do not have to be tied hand in hand.

Hence:

1 page for Remotes:

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...teControls

1 page for Channel Changers:

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...elChangers

How we begin to write this up could be your magnum opus (or you first magnum opus, but I think that is wrong, we can all only have one?!)

I 'think' that those 2 page refs given should be the starting blocks for where you need to go.

My advice, only follow the path you want BEFORE documenting. It may be that there is a different path. i.e. you have a certain remote that you want to work. You try Event Ghost. Not so good. You try HIP, not sure, you try IRSS, you go back to HIP. But remember this should not be your experience that you write up. It should be a clear clean and concise definition of HOW things work.

Sorry, feel like I have preached to the converted. Hope you know what I mean.

And as I have always said, if in doubt just ask Wink

very cheers

Well.... ok then??

I need more opinions! Need to stay with GNU options, and simplicity of setup.... Will keep tinkering with various options, but want to make it as simple as possible. I should not of needed to look at an old gbpvr wiki page to get detailed info.... which I am sure is quite outdated!! Until a reply to this thread, I did not even know that there was more info on an old wiki page compared to the current one... My reasoning for starting this thread in the first place!

Hi again Grampz, Greg! (BTW love your avatar)

I have watched a load of your threads over some time now on this forum and really like your fresh approach and 'tude!

Problem is we are all in this age of online communciation and so often things I say get mis-interpreted, but then often things others write do too!

I am so glad that you think that you would be willing to write up some wiki stuff I think that you will be a great input.

IMHO:

What others opinions do you need at this stage?

This is not the right thread to go through all the ways of setting this up. Some of this stuff needs to be done on the general support threads etc. Then you can boil it down to wiki thoughts.

I think it is really good that you looked at the old wiki to ref this if your intention is to write things up for the new wiki. Always learn by others.

And yes, a great thread that you have started here.

very best
