I suspect that it has nothing to do with the recording. I can play the same recording repeatedly and get randomly different results when I skip ... the delay or freeze might last ten seconds during one replay and 60 seconds during another replay of the same file. All NPVR recordings skip badly in NPVR but skip well in PVRX2. All dvrms recordings skip well in NPVR.

Would a role reversal help? Can you post a ten minute recording that I can download and try? I predict that I will have skip problems with your file.

I have a computer that has both W7(32) and XP(32) installed. I have tested skips in both and the symptoms are identical in both XP and W7. The news recording was done in XP.

Is there a way that I can run a trace while attempting to skip?

His file skips OK on my test box, also Win7 32 bit with the same decoders, etc, just a more powerful system. See my sig.
Do both those machines have the same version of mpg2splt.ax?

Yeah, I'm sure that'd be the case aswell. It something else going on for these users that are having skip issues, but I dont know what yet. It's something like different version of MPEG-2 Demultiplexer filter or similar.

For the record, I'm sure surprised this worked well for you. PVRX2 had really crappy skipping of .ts files, and we were getting almost continous complaints about it's ts skipping. It didn't know how long recordings were, made wildly inaccurate guesses etc. Alot of those short comings were addressed in NextPVR, but obviously some people are still having problems.

I play this file, and keep moving the mouse so the timeline is visible, when it reaches 15 seconds I hit skip, and I dont get this 20 second audio/video freeze you're reporting. For the skip takes something like half a second, then audio video is playing again.

What OS are you running? I'm running Win7 64bit.

Can some of you other guys try this same file and let me know what happens when you try the same test?
I'm running W7/64, EVR, PDVD12 video and Lav for audio. I get varying results, skipping from 15 sec one minute forward is lightning fast, however other skips (forward or backwards) gives me a delay varying from 5 to 15 seconds. Also, the one-min forward skip always skips 1:04 and on-min back skips 56 seconds. I was not able to get a freeze when skipping in this file.

For record I just tried going forward through the file, and then back through the file, with short periods of playback between each. For me both forward and back behaved the same. Audio would start within about half a second. Video would start either at the same time, or shortly after, anywhere up to a second or two later (which will be when the next iframe occurs).

I'm specifically interested in focusing specific tests though, like repeatable tests.

You'll probably find you get audio from 1:00 either direction, and a couple of seconds for video to kick in.

What version of mpg2splt.ax is only your machine?

I'm running w7/64, MS decoder for vid, LAV for audio (SPDIF out) and this skips fine for me. I did the test as stated and it was fine. Skipped randomly forwards and backwards and it was fine. I think my issues are confined to H264 recordings.

Oh, if it makes any difference, I lobbed this file in a directory and played from the videos menu not recordings.

mpg2splt.ax data for me:

Test box (skips OK): modified - 12.22.10
created - 4/22/11

Lounge box (skips bad): modified - 7/13/2009
created - 7/13/2009

No version numbers in Explorer properties.

Since both installations were from the same Win7 family pack, it seems I may have missed an update on the lounge box. I'll try copying the newer version and test later. Out of time now.

I don't seem to have a mpg2splt.ax, since I have TSDoctor installed it is possible that I'm using the Hali splitter.
