I am using DVBGuide to collect the Freeview off air epg as in the early days of NPVR I could not get a complete epg - always bits missing - now I need it to get the HD epg info which is encrypted.

Since using DVBGuide I have gradually set the update time later as I was still getting incomplete info. Now even at 05:00 on a Monday morning there are often large chunks missing - almost as though there is no one there to do the updates on a Sunday night - anything to save a pound or two! Rest of the week is usually OK by 5am.

The way the UK system works is that the entire epg for DVB-T + T2 is broadcast on every mux which takes about 7 to 8 minutes to collect (not timed it recently) Scanning one mux for 10 mins normally gets the full 7 day epg.

One moor problem I have found occasionally is that the computer goes back to sleep before the update has finished
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I'v also found that collecting epg from dvb-t takes 8-10 minutes, so npvr's one minute scan is not by far enough. Epg from dvb-c is much much faster and takes probably less than a minute.

Are you using the latest version of DVBGuide?

Using DVBGuide 0.95 Beta which appears to be the most recent. Long time since an update - but if it works why fix it? Also Hofman Table decoding for the HD Channels works fine.

I also have been trying to replicate the problem as Sub requested without success. My problem is mainly with missing Pending Recordings which sometimes happens even with a full EPG. I always do a reboot just after the automatic EPG update and just recently for some reason as it restarts a second EPG update runs when NRecord starts and this update is always ok. Although this morning all is ok the original EPG update at 03:00 only produced 4935 EPG entries in the database and 41 scheduled recordings with status “0” but the second update after the reboot generated 7930 EPG entries and 79 scheduled recordings.

Looking at NRecord.log.1 the first three MUX scans are faulty because of the low number of channels found and the low number of listings found. At 03:03:45 the stream stops and at 03:05 there is an error message after which the last two mux are scanned correctly. Unfortunately looking at ndigitalhost.log.2 the error message NRecord.log is probably caused by “Async stop taking way too long” error.

Enclosed are the logs for the update last night. Also enclosed are similar logs for the update on the 26th in case they offer any clues.

Lao Pan- I also had a recent EPG scan where the computer went to sleep 15 seconds into scanning the first MUX. I was doing a forced automatic scan as requested by Sub and went back to the computer to check the results so had to wake the computer. I still have the logs and on checking the scan sees to have resumed at the point it went to sleep with no errors but the listings found on the first MUX does seem low for each channel.

When is the automatic EPG update supposed to occur?

I too have been frequently seeing epg data drop out, with recordings subsequently disappearing from the pending queue. I have scheduled an epg update only task for 6am in the morning to help overcome this, but on checking yesterday morning around 7.30, saw that some channels were still lacking in data. (Then did an EPG update from the channels settings to sort this out).

This morning I checked again at 7.30ish and saw that the guide was fully populated. I have checked again now (11ish), only to find that TV One, 2 and 3plus1 are all now empty of data.

I had assumed that the automatic update occurred in the middle of the night - while this obviously isn't the case, I can't immediately see a setting for changing the update time. The epg is probably coming from the DVB-S side of the cards, as the DVB-T reception isn't great here, and thus I have disabled the two DVB-T tuners. Does the automatic epg update occur only once a day, or is it a continuous thing?

The hour it runs is specified on the Settings->Misc2 screen.

Set EPG update hour to 11 am, restarted recording service. EPG fully populated.

(Note, didn't empty EPG beforehand).

Maybe just try increasing <EPGScanSeconds> in config.xml.

Tried changing the EPGScanSeconds to 240, only to find an empty epg when I looked at it this evening. Will try setting it to 1200 and see if that sorts it out Smile
