Back in the game.

Ok, I'm using an HDhomerun as my primary source, and only an HD antenna hooked up to that for over the air channels. I have two computers both running XP SP3, which were both working with gbpvr previously. I finally decided to take the plunge and move up to NextPVR. Somehow on one of my computers I was able to scan in the channels from the HDhomerun. The other I can't seem to make a connection. I swear I've got every port open in the firewall for all the Npvr programs. Both my computers have the same firewall exceptions from what I see. I've been afraid to make another attempt to scan in the channels on the computer that is working. I think I scanned them in before the latest update of HDhomerun, which now gives you the choice of Nextpvr as the application I'm using. The computer that is not working was updated before I attempted to scan in the channels. I am going to include the logs from both computers in hopes that someone else might help to point me in the right direction.
Logs is from the computer that is working with the hdhomerun.
Npvrlogs is from the computer that won't scan in the channels.

On the computer that is scanning in the channels I made an attempt to get programming data from the stream. I never got anything when it attempted in scan in the programming guide. So I then set up Mc2xml as a source for programming guide data. When I try and switch any of the channels to use XML type of guide data it just switches back to DVB/ATSC EPG. Any ideas with this?

I appreciate any help. Thanks, Marcello

Ok, how about this? Is there a way I can clone the configuration of the working computer? Move that data over to the computer that isn't working. If no one knows how to do that - is there a map somewhere for the configuration data of Nextpvr?

Thanks,

Mab

NPVR stores all config data in config.xml and npvr.db3 in the Data folder. From the wiki

Quote:Default Data directory.

The location of the data directory depends on the version of Windows you are running:

•Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008: C:\Users\Public\NPVR
•Windows XP, Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR

Hmmm. So what would happen if I inadvertently delete npvr.db3? Would the program just rebuild it or would I have an issue.

6am this morning got programming data finally! Suddenly the program is allowing me to change programming data to xml type for each of the channels without switching it back when I go to save it. And from that I was able to get valid EPG data into the guide. Yeah!.

Going to try copying those two files over to the my not working machine and see what happens. I have a feeling I will be in the running.

It'll recreate a new empty one. This database includes all the devices and channels though, so they'd need to be setup again.

You mentioned you're using XP.
There are some hassles with "sharing" of the data directory in XP.
I forget how this is resolved because I migrated to W7 but there is a fix.

As for your EPG, when you switch to xml are you mapping the channels to the corresponding stations in the xml file?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've got everything working on both machines. I'm guessing the tv guide problem was that I didn't have data loaded into the file the first time attempted to map the channels. No data means nothing to map too. Once the xml data was populated I was able to get it working. I swear I didn't have the choice to choose a an xml file the first time I tried, but when I went back it asked me to point to the file and everything worked great.

Copied the config and npvr.db3 files over and it's working. I had to remove devices that didn't exist on this machine. But I'm up and running. I have access to all the channels. I attempted to delete the channels, and see if I could scan them in on this machine. Yes, that now works too. Weird. But who cares it is all up and running.

Thanks,

Mab
