Based on stustunz's suggestion, I tried rescanning the devices individually rather than copying the settings across, with interesting results.

EDIT: I have deleted the rest of this post as although I had thought my scan was missing the regular FTA channels, I then realised that this was because the scan only picked up new channels. I will try deleting all the channels on both devices, and then rescanning individually as suggested by stustunz.

This problem shows up for me as a low number of Pending Recordings and only very occasionally do I see a problem with missing EPG entries. I would usually expect to see a number between 70 and 90 but on occasions when there is a problem it has dropped to as low as 14. I stopped using the standard EPG update over a week ago and now use "nextpvr.exe -updateepgonly" and not had a problem since. It seems to work scheduled at any time and is running at 9am at the moment. This does not seem to produce any output in the NPVR.log although a manual EPG update does. However that could be because I am still on the R1 patch level as my client is working reliably, does not have a skip problem and dont want to risk breaking it.

I'm still having EPG issues. I'll try the -updateepgonly for a few days and I'll report back. Not sure if it'll make any difference, but hopefully more feedback will help diagnose the fault.

Can one of your guys that is having this issue try turning off out-of-process digital recording for a few days to see if the problem still happens?

I turned off "out-of-process digital recording" last night and turned back on the overnight EPG update but still have a later -updateepgonly running as well. Its is obviously too early to come to any conclusion but after the 2am update the database had 7965 EPG events and 84 Pending recordings (Status 0) and after the later -updateepgonly update has 8074 EPG events and 83 pending recordings.

To clarify the description I gave above (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post433129), here's what happens...

I have two machines, one server which is used to watch live TV several times most days, and one client which is used occasionally (the nPVR Service runs continuously on the client, though).
  • Watch some TV on the server, following which the "TV Guide" screen is apparently completely populated, at least for shows in the next couple of hours. Restarting the nPVR application does not at this point result in losing TV Guide information (see below).
  • Leave nPVR displaying the "TV Guide" screen overnight (during which time an automatic EPG update should have occurred).
  • Come back the following morning -- the "TV Guide" screen is still there, displaying the correct (current) time, and still apparently properly populated.
  • Now exit from nPVR and immediately restart it (but do not restart the nPVR service), and now the "TV Guide" shows several "(no show details)" entries.

As requested by sub, I've turned off "out-of-process digital recording" (on both the server and client PCs -- does it make any difference on the client?), and rebooted both machines. I'll report back.

It's been almost a week now, and my epg problems haven't recurred. Basically I deleted all the channels on both devices and then individually rescanned them (ie NOT choosing the "copy from other device" option for the second device). Did other people with this problem also originally choose the copy option?

Yes.

Also, after turning off "out-of-process digital recording" yesterday, the TV Guide seems OK today. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days.

I originally used the copy option.

I'll try unticking "out-of-process recordings" tonight.

Well just to muddy the waters I rescanned all my hdhomerun tuners without the copy option and this morning it seems worse with the fta guide, almost no data. I'll try the out of process option and see what I get.
