I have been running npvr on several 64-bits systems since the beginning without issues. Btw, when I say running as Administrator I mean right-clicking on the installer and selecting Run as Administrator from the menue.

Thanks Reddwarf, Yes that is the way I've done it. Hang in there with me guys ... I'll be back tonight with a 32-bit Win 7 OS. Oh one other thing. I also see that frameworks vs. 2.0 is needed. Is there a chance this software actually NEEDs 2.0 or is the software forward compatible with frameworks 4.x ?? I have other 64 bit new systems where I only have frameworks 4.x and other systems where I have all of them (vers 1, 2, 3 and 4). I know sometimes some applications will choke if the correct frameworks version isn't installed. Usually most apps are backward compatible to 2.x 3.x etc. But sometimes the app. was compiled with an older framworks version and if that older version of FrameWorks was not previously installed then you might have problems.

I haven't checked my existing system yet. If I find I DON'T have Framworks 2, then I guess I'll install it and try NPVR again before I change OS's Any ideas about that?

It says framework 2.0 in prereq. but as far as I can remember I haven't installed it on any of my W7 systems. What edition of windows 7 are you running? I have only used Ultimate.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I also have all the other versions as well to "play with". The one I'll try tonight will be Win 7 Pro 32-bit.

I did some digging into the Net Framework runtime. The computer I'm using was a fresh install some time back. Prior to that I had an older version of win 7 and as I recall there was a few framework run times .. possibly 2, 3.5 and 4. I had a problem getting a recent framework security update to work about a year ago, and ultimately had to un-install all the frameworks and ended up with just version 4. It looks like an install of v. 4 will also cover 3.5 but not 2. Version 2 needs to be installed by way of 3.5. Arrghhhh. My head hurts. <grin> Anyway, it "may" be as easy as my having to enable it in the add/remove Windows specific programs. That might be my first thing to try. Otherwise I'll plug in a new drive and try both 32 and 64 bit versions of windows Pro and Ultimate. More later .....

You shouldn't need to install any .NET runtime on Win7 to use NextPVR.

Did you try my suggestion on the last page? (nrecord.exe INSTALL)

If your system is 64bit it looks like there is a problem with your installation

2012-04-14 22:17:22.702 [DEBUG][1] Skipping non-existant plugin directory: D:\Program Files\NPVR\Plugins\

Normally you would should be using the 32bit folder, which Win7 would designate as C:\Program Files (x86)\ so if you moved things around trying to get things to work I would expect an issue.

What does your PC show when you run

echo %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%

And for the record, npvr is a 32-bit system. Try looking in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432NODE\NPVR) and see what ProgramDirectory is set to.

Thanks for sticking with my guys. I'm convinced I have some kind of very weird thing going on here.

I've run NRecord.exe INSTALL from a cmd prompt opened as Admin. Program executes and ends with no errors.

Still no recording. checked task manager under services and it shows NPVR Recording Service as "Stopped". (it's always been that way from the get go over the last 7 installations) When I try to start the service I get this: " The operation could not be completed. The system cannot find the path specified".

The program IS being installed in the proper directory. I've checked the registry as was mentioned for the paths .. and found

DataDirectory C:\Users\Public\NPVR
InstallDirectory C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR

Last night I took a "brand new" unformatted drive and installed only Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. Nothing else. Ran the NextPVR setup .. Guess what? Same issues?

Can anyone tell me what the size in bytes should be for NPVRSetup_2_4_3.exe? I'm showing 20,817,948 bytes. I've scanned it and there are no infections. Now I am thinking the install file might have been corrupted. BTW, I've also installed this program on another computer (a windows XP system) and am having problems there (similar .. where I can't get the service to start and cannot get any kind of recording to work)

This has me truly baffled. I'll try downloading another copy of the install ...but would like to see if anyone can tell me what the size of the downloaded installation app. should be.

Oh and I've made sure all pertinent files have been properly flagged in my Firewall.

From the command line try running "nrecord.exe RUN" and see if there is any error messages on the screen.

Have you checked that Nrecord.exe actually IS in C:\Program Files (x86)\?
