I have a fairly decent spec running XP x64.

The programme is painfully slow to navigate around. Channel changing is also very slow.

Picture quality is excellent but nPVR is badly let down by the non-responsiveness.

Any tips to improve?

What area of the application exactly? In the Settings screen do you get a red warning that direct3d is not available?

How long is it taking to change channels? What type of channels are you watching? For example - DVB-T in the UK?

What CPU do you have?

The whole application is slow and non-responsive. In every mode, and at every screen. In both Desktop and Media mode. Even if using the mouse to navigate, the response is very lagging.
TV/video plays fine, nice and smooth so I'm guessing it's an implementation issue.

I get no warnings about D3D. The video chip is DX9/D3D/PxShader capable. The CPU is Core 2/T7300 with 8GB RAM.

Tried using a selection of codec decoders. FFDShow and PowerDVD9. Non-responsive issue still remains.

Yes channels are DVB-T UK. Channel changes are 5-10 secs which is long, believe me.

Thats odd - it shouldn't be slow, and we're not seeing other people reporting this.

When navigating around the application, are you using a remote or a keyboard? If a remote, does it work better if you try the keyboard instead. I can think of a couple of issues people have had with their remotes in the past that could cause this.

Alternatively, are you on a multi-monitor setup?

What video card are you using?

I had this when I first installed NPVR. I had failed to install all of the pre-req software. I cannot now be sure but I think it was the DirectX update that fixed it.

Yes OK. I've got all the prerequisites installed. Also have DX Redist 2010 installed. Fully patched system.

The video controller is the Intel GM965 (integrated GPU) on a single monitor. Navigating around with the keyboard seems acceptable. Although using the remote it is bad and using the mouse a lot worse.

Channel changing still takes a long time.

I might suggest that the whole application needs to be more fluidic. I can understand nPVR has its own style but in my view the PVR/Timeshifting features also need to be more up front.

This sounds like it's something to do with your remote configuration then. What remote are you using? If it's a Hauppauge remote, did you add something to irremote.ini? There was a faulty irremote.ini section posted by a user in the past that could cause really slow response like you describe.

You'll need to reproduce this problem, then zip and attach the nrecord.log and npvr.log so I can check it out.

Usually channel changes would take somewhere in the 1.5-3.0 seconds, depending on the hardware you're using, the video standard etc.

Unfortunately this doesnt mean much to me. What is the problem exactly? A correctly functioning install is nice and smooth.

I had one case of that too, npvr was working but VERY slow. It turned out that the C-redist library was not installed properly.

Just for point of reference...

I'm still running the same 'crate' I built in early 2005 for my PVR setup (well I say the 'same' but it is now on its third PSU and I've had to replace a few case fans Smile ).

It's a P4 2.4GHz processor (single core, obviously) with 1GB RAM running XP Pro (32-bit). The graphics card is a Radeon 7000 AGP card with 64MB of DDR RAM, I use VMR9 with the MPV and MPA decoders (not that decoders matter for the npvr UI).

Start up time for NextPVR is slow (not surprisingly due to my system specs) - perhaps 10 seconds. Once started, however, I can scroll the main menu or any menus/lists in other 'plugins' using my mouse scroll wheel pretty much as fast as I can move the wheel.

Live TV takes a short while to start (maybe 5 seconds) but channel changes take perhaps 1-4 seconds - on average 2-3 seconds.

So, as I said, just a point of reference. One thing worth checking though (now I think of it) would be any anti-virus (or similar supposedly 'benevolent' software) which might be trashing things.
