Is there a way to give NPVR top priority on the PC when streaming? I used to be able to give nrecord a priority boost in the task manager, but it disappeared a few releases ago.
Generally I have few problems, but every now and again if I'm doing some other work on the server while someones watching TV on a client it can interrupt the playback, and the clients then tend to hang completely, rather than catch up or restart TV.
I suppose making the clients a bit more resilient to glitchy streams would be another option.

in config.xml:
Code:
<UseHigherPriority>true</UseHigherPriority>
    <HigherPriorityLevel>AboveNormal</HigherPriorityLevel>
I'm pretty sure the options for the priority level are the same as in task manager: AboveNormal, High, Realtime. I think Sub has said Realtime would be a bad idea, but it is available.

Nothing appears in the task manager any more (nrecord used to be there until a while back). The recording service only appears under services now, but this doesn't have a priority level assigned to it as far as I can tell. Do the config.xml entries control this?

Nrecord should definitly be in the task manager list if it is running. Did you tick "Show process from all users" in the task manager?

Ahh, there it is! Thanks. Would setting a processor affinity help in anyway? Does this 'save' a core just for NPVR, or is it best left on all processors?

No it wouldn't help. It'd just tell NPVR it's only allowed to use a limited number of cores. Other processes would be using those cores too. ie, you'd be restricting it to less CPU than it currently gets.
