Just updated to 2.5.5 (from 2.4.3? I think) to try to fix my problem with NPVR hanging when trying to delete a recording. Now it hangs when trying to cancel a pending recording, too. It also wiped out my what's new list and my pending recordings list, so I updated the EPG via the batch file (updateepg.bat, which lives in \Users\Public\NPVR\Scripts, which has never auto-updated, maybe you can tell me how to fix that as well), and then updated it in NPVR (settings channels update epg button) and that hung too! Logs attached, please help if you can. Thanks.

Quote:2012-08-12 20:10:13.136 [ERROR][4] Error listing for recording service interface: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted
It looks like the recording service is failing to start because something is already listening on that port.

Did you make sure you shutdown all other NextPVR software before upgrading?

Did you reboot since upgrading?

Yes I shutdown the NPVR service before updating, and I just rebooted and it seems the problem with hanging when cancelling/deleting has cleared itself up (thank goodness for the easy fixes).

Now I'll have to wait a day or two and see if the epg will start updating itself automatically or not.

Thanks for the help, sub.

post your nrecord.log the includes the time an automatic epg update should have happened, and also post your updateepg.bat itself.

Oooh me jumping in, but hey because I feel relaxed and listening to Pink Floyd.

Just a question sub? And don't know where to place it, could be in wishlist but here now...

What are we into here now? About 2 years of the NextPVR software dev? Would it not be a good time to make sure that the installer shutdown what you needed without asking your new users to do it first?

Just a question. Please do not get defensive!

whether the installer ought to shutdown the service for you or not, it wouldn't have helped with the OP's problem.

In this instance no. I agree Mr DJ. Would not have helped the OP. But on the grand scale? Are these not little niggles that drive great software to outstanding software? I hijacked this thread I know but.......... Big Grin

Would it not be preferable that the base installer did everythibg necessary rather than us all having to fart about?

cheers steeb

yeah, quit hijacking my thread Smile

Here's my logs again and epg bat file, its not updating, I see no new shows being added past the 24th. Hopefully its an easy fix. Again the bat file is in \Users\Public\NPVR\Scripts where its supposed to be, I think?

I can see it's running your UpdateEPG.bat, but your script is never completing, so it never moves on to processing the epg.

I've never used mc2xml myself, but I can only guess it's unhappy about something and either showing an error message, or asking you to enter some information.

If it does complete successfully when you manually run updateepg.bat, then it's probably something to do with permissions (since the recording system runs as 'localsystem') - ie problems either reading the mc2xml config files, or writing the xmltv files. Like bad choice of directory for one of those, and its not accessable by localsystem.

Not sure why that would be, the account I use to run the system has admin rights, and yes I can update manually and it works fine when I do so (run the batch file, then settings and hit the update EPG button every so often) but its annoying to keep doing so, and when I forget, shows don't get recorded.
