I've got video...no sound

I just installed NPVR today and I've been playing around with it trying to get it to work.

My hardware is:

Windows 7 Prof N - 64 bit
4 GB RAM
GeoForce9300/nForce730i
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
I also run XBMC as my media center so I''m really only looking for NPVR for live tv and maybe the occasional recording


The only weird thing during setup was that it identified my tuner card as a WinTV-7164 in NPVR but since I was able to scan channels and get a video signal I assumed that was OK.
The audio signal is detected as AC3 but I get no sound, even thought the video comes in perfect. I've tried messing with the decoder settings but no luck
What would you guys recommend next? I reached out to hoborg for maybe trying SAF6 codecs, is that a good place to start?

This is normal. Its the name of the driver components.

Its almost certainly just down to the AC3 or MPEG1 Layer II audio decoders. What have you currently got selected for these on the Settings->Decoders page?

Also make sure your audio renderer is set to default.

You need an AC3 decoder configured in the settings/decoder section. Windows does not have one that works with NPVR. Try AC3 filter, works well for me. Also, to start with, set your audio renderer to system default, and your video renderer to EVR. You can use the MS DTV-DVD video decoder.

thanks mike this worked for me...first I tried the SAF6 drivers but that didn't help, then I took your advice and just installed AC3Filter and that did it
