I need new wording for this paragraph about the cumulative patch:
Quote:ALL NPVR USERS SHOULD INSTALL THE CUMULATIVE PATCH UPDATE REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE IDENTIFIED ISSUES. These updated files represent the latest version of NPVR code, and may include other changes not documented. Other later patches or program updates you may find posted by sub may fail if all your NPVR program files are not up to date. In particular, before posting any support request please install the current cumulative patch update and reproduce your problem.
I adopted this wording during earlier releases when there were often very serious bugs that were corrected with numerous patches, and there were many cases where installing the latest patches fixed issues that hadn't even been documented, so just telling everyone to install the patches seemed to reduce the number of support posts and resultant wild goose chases.

Nowadays though, the basic functionality of NextPVR is pretty solid, and the patches largely fix little niggles and isolated issues. Some patches add new features, but they're still not critical. Most users will be fine if they just install the initial release, and use it completely unpatched until the next release. So I feel like I ought to re-word that section, but everytime I try I end up with a wishy-washy mess.

Anyone care to take a try at re-wording that? Or do you all think it's fine as-is?

What about...
Quote:ANY NPVR USERS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS SHOULD INSTALL THE CUMULATIVE PATCH UPDATE AND RECREATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE POSTING A SUPPORT REQUEST. These updated files represent the latest version of NPVR code, and may include other changes not documented, so your problem may already have been fixed. Also, other later patches or program updates you may find posted by sub may fail if all your NPVR program files are not up to date.

Done. That was easy. Sometimes it just takes a fresh perspective.

Thanks.

Hi johnsonx42
I believe this most resent patch from a week ago isn't on the list yet

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post440750

Although it is to fix an unusual scenario as always it could have some minor tweaks etc. and is the latest.
I have been using it for a week without any problems
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Installed R1 patches and now Win7 says that ntray.exe is suspisious and do I trust it. I click "yes" and "don't ask me again" but Win7 is still unconvinced next time I start NPVR. I've never had this before.

johnsonx42 Wrote:I've now posted an R1 cumulative patch for NextPVR 2.5.5. Really only two important files have changed, NextPVR.exe itself, and NShared.dll.

Also, UJB posted a new version of NEWA which includes the iNEWA security fixes. That is linked above the patch list.

@skl111 - if you want to make an installer from the R1 update file, post it here and I'll add it to the patch post.

I thought I had turned on notifications for this thread, but it was off. PM me next time if you don't mind.

an alternative to 'super important script tip' is to use- cd /d "%~dp0" to change directory to script file's directory, avoids typos, different drive, etc.
keep up the great work, You Rock! Smile

I've posted a 2.5.9 R1 patch .zip. sub is apparently working on some back-end updates to support time-shifting with XBMC, so I wanted to get R1 posted as a baseline before those changes are made. once those XBMC-related updates are posted and tested a bit, I'll make an R2 udpate .zip available for the convenience of all XBMC users. Then I imagine we'll sit tight until NPVR 2.6.

XBMC users should note that the R1 update does include the patch (#9) recommended in Getting started with the NextPVR XBMC addon, so there's no need to go looking for that patch separately.
