whurlston Wrote:I disagree. The worst is when you go to a website and it refreshes to an ad page that you have to view before you can view the page you wanted to see. Second to that is AdSense words where you can't even move your mouse over the page without a popup. Third would be flash ads that expand to cover content on the page. Fourth would be popup/popunder ads.

In terms of ads, this site is nothing compared to a lot of other sites I've seen. One or two Google Ads on a forum is quite commonplace now and don't bother me in the least, especially if it helps keep this awesome software free. Then again, maybe sub should start charging for additional features. Wink

I agree completely.

I do too! Sort of Wink

I agree with Jaggy bringing it up.

I agree with whurlston's disagreement of my comments!

I agree that if you look at all the people that have mainly responded to this post have been fairly well high hitters re community posts. Even the very good (and respected comments from the low hitters appear to have been members of this forum for a long time?)

And then I get into pretty looks mode Big Grin

It has been established that you do not need to click on the ad's? As long as they are implemented?

Why not start pulling the vbulletin software in towards a similar look to the front end webface and wiki? With banner ad's like the wiki down the side? I would have thought that would just help to keep the NextPVR project consistent web-wise and may be encourage some newbies to say that they ignore the ad's anyway

cheers

Does anyone know what I need to white list in AdBlock Plus to enable the ads? I want to support sub, but it seems like enabling forums.gbpvr.com still does not show the ads.

The ads are not a problem for me.
I've been on sites with ads in the same place, but if I mouse over it I get an annoying drop down that fills half the page & that's damn annoying.

I'm fine with what I have got now with ABP installed & as I feel $15US is a tad on the high side to not see add's (& have a much faster page refresh with our slow broadband out here as a bonus) I will just add $5US to my next donation early next year.

yeah i was think $5 but i see the lowest is $15
I think $5 would bring more in because people would just think what the heck why not
But im not sure what paypal take per transaction. Maybe thats the reason for $15 been the lowest

opt 1 $5
opt 2 $10
opt 3 $15
opt 4 $25
opt 5 $50
plus $10 from there

I have just clicked on a Microsoft ad ... Microsoft will be paying money to Sub .. I reckon that is a result.

Note to Sub ... don't spend it all in one place.
