Its not based on the <AllowedMediaExtensions>, but rather a smaller set of hardcoded extensions it'll look for. "wtv" is one of those extensions, so if you had a .ts recording listed in the database, and it found it was not there, but a .wtv file was, then yes it should automatically update the database.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but what are the acceptable media extensions that npvr will automatically detect in the case of a transcode?
And are there any config settings that are needed so npvr will look for/accept a new file with the same name?

thanks!

Since we reviving this one... newer computer means I now ignore all my sqlite work and just transcode. NPVR picks it up fine when I replace the old recording with the new transcoded one.

For extensions, I have only used MPG, AVI and MP4. All have picked up just fine. I guess Sub or one of the other experts on the site will be able to advise more on the range of what is there. Any particular extensions you are interested in?

It looks for .mpg, .avi, .wtv, .dvr-ms, .ts, .mp4, wmv and mkv

ah that would explain when I attemped a transcoding to .M4V I lost the recording from the database Sad

Do I need to set any options such as <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> or <CheckForRenamedRecordings> etc ?

I'll add M4V for the next release.

sorry to revive this - try as I might the .ts recordings I have transcoded to .mkv refuse to playback in "recordings" although if I place a copy of the mkv in my media folder I can play them back via "Videos". I have verified the name given the transcoded file is identical to the original except of course, for the new ".mkv" rather than ".ts". Odd. I have set the following:

<AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>
<CheckForRenamedRecordings>false</CheckForRenamedRecordings>
<NoRemoveWhenTreeMissing>false</NoRemoveWhenTreeMissing>

It behaves just like the file is missing altogether - same behavior as if I temporarily relocate a working .ts file from my recordings folder. The entry remains but cannot be played. If I toss the archived original .ts in there all is well. So thinking that "CheckforRenamed" was the issue, and assuming that instructed the db to allow playing of a file in the same location but with an mkv extension, I tried setting that to true. Wrong choice - the entry is immediately removed from the database. Is this a bug or am I setting something wrong here?

The utility I'm using, MCEBuddy, seems to first move the original to archive folder (if that's what is set within MCEBuddy), then places the transcoded file in the original location with the new extension.

Either my db updating is incorrect or the MKV extension is enabled for media playback but not recording playback....

If you are playing via the recording menu from a client, they must be mpeg ts

You have <CheckForRenamedRecordings> set to 'false', so it'll still have the original reference to the .ts file which you no longer have. You'd have to have it set to 'true' for it to find that you've replace the .ts with a .mkv file.

You'll want to leave the original file in it's original place until you've created the mkv file.
