Icons, thumbnail & fanart support in API

I noticed this commit a few days ago -> https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/1455 it allows icons, thumnails & fanart for recordings. Other than timeshifting, this is like the last piece of the pie for me

I know NPVR already has the channel icons available, but what about thumnails & fanart? I don't think the fanart is critical, but NPVR doesn't create thumbnails for recordings does it?

And to follow up on the first post, I was wondering about mapping the icons back to the server instead of creating a local copy? I played with that some a while back when I first looked at a way to map to the XBMC Userdata folder. It worked, but I was hardcoding the IP address and I had to set up a share for the icons on my NPVR server.

imageGrabLite, downloads both thumbnails and cover art to MediaShows and also renames files to xbmc tv show and movie standards.

For now I'm just focusing on trying to get them to merge what I've already got before the freeze, so I'm avoiding adding anything new right now.

NextPVR does use thumbnails and fanart itself if users have them, and there is some NextPVR utilities that download this type of stuff, so yes we could supply that stuff in future.

Do you mean a URL to the icon on the server? If XBMC can use that, and it doesn't slow things down, yes we could do that. As you've indicated, I'd probably need to add support for adding the server name instead of IP address though.

As far as ForTheRecord is concerned I'm not 100% positive on that. I just know it maps to the icon on the server, not sure how (I didnt debug the code so Im not sure what its sending from the ForTheRecord server.)

In my tests I was using a simple mapping, but I can try the URL tonight (or tomorrow) and let you know if either/both will work. I can put the icons in a folder on my web server and try that to test it out.

Edit: And this isn't something we need to concern with right away. I was just trying to be forward thinking to mapping the fanart & thumbnails and it hit me that maybe we could just map them all back to the server like FTR does.

If the art has already been scraped by xbmc, why would you not want to use the TV Shows or Movies views? They are beautiful, have lots of options and they are much easier to navigate, plus they tie in really well with the wifi remotes.
