NextPVR Presence on xbmc wiki

Dear all,

just chucking this out into the community for now.

sub has provided an add-on to xbmc's new backend pvr capability in the latest release of NextPVR.

As usual sub is ahead of the game and has written, from my initial testing, a very solid add-on to xbmc.

Martin has also been working on an xbmc add-on.

My question is how do we document this?

What I mean by that is we have screenshots etc of certain NextPVR configurations. I think that for now these are sound....

My thought is to use the clients/extenders section?

And rename it to something else?

all thoughts most welcome! I am just itching to start writing some of this up but cannot do so until I am secure in my world of where to put it!

And yes, a load of this can be put I presume in the xbmc wiki, but I think some basics need to be in the NextPVR wiki?

doesn't really surprise me that no-one has replied to this thread yet. Always wiki think wiki do....

I know that this stuff is still alpha but I do not see from what I have seen that this will go beyond beta and into full releases?

Apparently Myth and MP have got this working as well as sub's add-on? Is this true? It is not what I have heard through my network!

They haven't accepted nextpvr addon code yet. I'm still working to get them doing that. Once it's merged into the main code, then you'll start to see it mentioned more often.

Also, keep in mind that the mythtv and mediaportal addons for xbmc are lot older. The NextPVR addon is only a few weeks old. It's going to take some time to work through getting it included.

at this stage I am bearing much in mind. But from sources I trust I do believe that Myth add-on is not as robust? And of course this is in Doc thread and I was simply wondering how xbmc wiki had not yet got you there?!

Their rules seem very open to wiki entries. I even got myself an account.... But is it that simple or are there some politics going on? I don't like politics! But if none still can't see why NextPVR would not have a mention on xbmc wiki, just let me know...

I've never used any of these other add-ons, so I cant tell you how stable/robust they are. They have existed for a lot longer though, and have all been merged into the main xbmc PVR repository. I've asked for the NextPVR addon to be added, but they haven't added it yet. They've given some feedback, and I've changed a couple of things for them, and now I'm waiting on them again. I'm sure it'll be added, but suspect it'll require a bit more back and forth.

It's not just NextPVR, the PVR stuff is very new in XBMC mainline http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141225 Indeed they are bureaucratic about separating the stable version from all the forks. Frodo isn't even final yet with or without NextPVR support so they have to respect that people are still using the "production" Eden version when writing the wiki.

Still I think the whole thing is handled very professionally. XBMC although freeware seems equivalent to a multi-million dollar software project, far surpassing anything out there. Working in a large company I find it very functional especially if you consider all the diverse interests and egos that are involved.

Thanks Martin. I think that was destiny! I remembered my log in and found out I created an account with xbmc way back in 2006!
