Thanks sk111,

no joy. AFAIK I have now installed both these latest to my system... I have restarted system. No joy at all getting this to work over network. But just to check again have opened browser window remotely for NEWA to my server and that is there...

Thanks all and v best until another day!

These are just my observations.....

First off "Slow down just a few notches"

Think of the xbmc Frodo builds as "pre-Alpha's" (not Beta's) as they aren't even that far advanced, therefore some will work as intended & some won't....... yeah it would be "nice" to get some (more) reports of which seem to be working well & which aren't that "was easy to find"

If you want a "ready for prime time" (or close to it) solution try Martins X-NEWA plugin.

steeb Wrote:Seems to be some probs connecting over network?

I would have thought as you are doing that this is a good one to solve as the beauty of NextPVR with xbmc is to have a NextPVR back-end? Which ultimately works over a network Wink

sub Wrote:Yeah, looks like it didn't even start the addon. Its probably an addon vs xbmc version problem.

First off it has to be "actually loading sub's plugin" before it's going to connect over a network (or that's how I see it) & you still haven't confirmed (or post more xbmc logs so others can confirm) that the updated versions you are now trying is loading the plugin??

Dear all,

many thanks muchly. Must have done something weird last night, it was late.

Needless to say this is working perfectly with the latest xbmc build and sub's add-on.

Brilliant stuff, this is looking v sexy indeed.

@ Jaggy, when have you ever known me to slow down Wink This is such an exciting development IMHO both for NextPVR and XBMC Big Grin

And yes of course I am going to try Martin's X-NEWA but wanted to get sub's native support a spin first..... and what a brilliant spin it is.

cheers xbmc team, cheers as always sub.

Funny, I just went to play with my xbmc a little, and it's broken now. absolutely nothing has changed since it was working a few days ago. when I first went in to XBMC it complained that I had the livetv enabled but no enabled PVR add-on. It showed me the add-on list, I enabled NextPVR, but it still didn't work. So then I went to System-Settings-LiveTV and disabled/enable LiveTV, and it prompted again that no PVR add-on was enabled, and showed me the NextPVR config screen where I again Enabled NextPVR (I had to go in this circle once when I first set it up too). Initially that appeared to work, as the little "PVR manager is starting up/Load channels from client" box appeared at the top of the screen. But it never makes any progress, it just sits there forever. I tried the oft-mentiond database reset, to no avail. So, mine is busted now, for no reason.

I'm not asking for help here, just pointing out that with the early nature of this xbmc version, it's no surprise when something doesn't work one day magically works the next, or worse something works one day then magically doesn't work the next.

edit: ah, ok, I forgot something did actually change... A few days ago I had added a bunch of channels to one of my QAM tuners, looking for a missing channel. many of these 44 extra channels didn't even have names, and none were mapped to any epg data. it turns out the PVR manager was gagging on those channels; as soon as I deleted them from NPVR, XBMC started working again.

edit 2: either way, my opinion of XBMC so far is "Pretty, but I'd hate to actually have to use it!". Honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about. Maybe later.

Nice one Mr Johnson!

I did something that I forgot about too.

I do understand the idea of "what is the fuss"?.

I guess it is as usual all down to the end user and what the requirements of a Media System may be?

For some LiveTV is not a necessary.

For some it is all about the bling etc.

For some it is all about having one consolidated network solution throughout the house.

For me the excitement is that sub has opened up NextPVR as a backend PVR solution for a very sexy front-end. And now we have integration. And we all know what NextPVR is. THE most rock solid PVR out there.

cheers all

To be honest the current state of xbmc-pvr is rather poor, gui and options havn't changed for 3 years I believe, the available options are limited etc...

BUT, all other parts of XBMC are imo really great, and most importantly cross-platform. So just to have the option to watch tv in xbmc is really great.

I'm a "bigger bit" in this camp at the current time... also Maybe later..... but then there are also the xbmc plugins etc. that I haven't even looked at yet so that "later" may become "sooner" after I've had some more time to play around with things.

I have XBMC (minimal - no desktop manager - linux/ubuntu install) on my bedroom's htpc. Let me tell you, it's interesting seeing a 2.4 PentiumIV managing 22/23 fps with a 720p video; all this with just 512Mb of RAM, and a Geforce4 440 MX for TV-Out. I don't actually watch those with it, but it was nice to see it could (borderline) do it. When I used this setup as NPVR's main workhorse, all I got was 4/5 fps at best. Besides, I can run it from a CF adapter, and usb pendrive. Big Grin

That being said, I tried xbmc's windows build, and dismissed after a couple of tries. I now only use it as frontend (in the living room) for parsing sport's webcasts with the sportsdevil addon. Rolleyes

XBMC in Windows is shinny as hell, but not as stable as NPVR. On a linux based system 'thou, xbmc is hard to beat.
