Well, I was confused already...

Does the installasion of GBPVR make some change to the Hauppauge MVP server files?

What does dongle do, and how is it used/ modified by GBPVR...

Is there any reason why installing GBPVR would break the Hauppauge MVP server software?

One more thing... if I close the GBPVRtray how do I restart it?

Thanks,

No

It is downloaded to the MVP and is the Operating System/Program for the MVP. No modifications made

Yes they both want to use the same ports to communicate with the MVP. So who comes first will get the port.

uhm dunno Smile

Run GBPVRTray.exe, there's probably a shortcut for it in your Startup group.

Thanks for all the input, I have learned a lot about the MVP and gbpvr... and now I know how to make it work again when something breaks!

As to why yours isn't working, I don't know. You say it's rejecting it - how do you know this? Are you running a network monitor, if so perhaps posting the output might assist in solving your problem.

I'm running Ethereal on my host computer. When I plug in the MediaMVP, this is what I get:
Time Source Destination Protocol Info
0s 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 DHCP DHCP Discover
0.002 192.168.1.1 Broadcast ARP Who has 192.168.1.172?
0.352 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255 DHCP DHCP Offer
18.42 192.168.1.172 255.255.255.255 DHCP DHCP Discover
repeat

So the MVP is getting a DHCP IP address from the Linksys WRT54G gateway (192.168.1.1), which is in this case 192.168.1.172. Then 18 seconds later the MVP comes asking for a new IP address. It's in a loop doing this, each time incrementing the IP address by 1. It never tries to access my PC (192.168.1.100) to load the dongle.bin. I have GBPVR shut off, and only the Hauppauge servers running right now.

I had a similar problem when I first got my MVP. Unfortunately the only solution I found was to disable DHCP on my router and let the Hauppauge software allocate the IP address. Does the router/GBPVR combination work for you though?

EDIT: I've just re-read your posts (it's late and I'm tired Smile ) You're not running both Hauppauge and GBPVR MVP software at the same time are you??

That didn't work either. I really should have read this thread more carefully. I uninstalled my VPN software and now everything works peachy (well, at least the Hauppauge software, now I can finally install GBPVR!) Smile

After some initial problems, I got my MVP up and running a little over 2 months ago (thanks Tipstir). It was working flawlessly until this morning when it quit. I should note that I was watching a recorded show while recording another show when it died. I think that it went down while Comskip was doing its postprosessing. Now it just alternates between "Contacting MediaMVP bootserver" and "Contacting DHCP server". I'm connected directly to my PC via crossover cable.
I'm hesitant to reinstall GBPVR because I have a lot of recorded shows and will lose the program description & comskip on them.
I know that this problem has been discussed "ad naseum", but I've noticed something that leads me to believe that it may be an MVP hardware problem.
When I plug in the MediaMVP unit, the power light immediately comes on. It will not turn off using the remote, and can only be turned off by unplugging it. Has anyone else had this connection problem and found that the remote will not work?

I did a fresh install and tried everything I could think of and still couldn't get out of "Contacting DHCP/MediaMVP bootserver" hell. As a last resort, I started the MediaMVP server and up came GBPVR! I'm now wondering if that was all I needed to do in the first place.

You don't even need to install the hauppauge software.

As long as you:

1. Have a DHCP server on your network.
2. Set the number of MVP servers to autostart in the config or start the MediaMVP server manually (from the GBPVR program group).

you should be able to connect. Of course other things can get in the way... Wink
