Maybe it's something to do with the autorefresh plugin you're using, which is trying to change refresh rate of desktop.

Just Tried without Autorefresh - Same 50% from local drive.
I'll try reinstalling SAF tomorrow as Admin and try FFDshow DXVA for WMV Cyberlink for H264 MKV's looks to be giving DXVA but I am getting an additional 20-30% CPU over the network compared to local (Graph Edit is about 5%)

Remember, the NextPVR decoder settings make no difference when you play these WMV/MKV files. These are only used for .TS files. For any other file types it's just up to DirectShow/Windows to choose which decoders are used. To change the decoders used for these other file types you need to tweak your machine's DirectShow setup.

Using the standard Video Plugin I have found that running the test file in a folder on its own or one other video (with or without name.jpg &name.xml) results in NPVR using about 25% CPU and Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation about 5%.
Put it in a Folder with several other Video Files and NPVR CPU usage Jumps to 45-50% for the entire duration of the Video - Double the CPU usage for no reason I can see. It also looks as if the more video files in a folder the higher the cpu usage. Also when the Video finishes and goes back to the menu the CPU usage rises slightly over playback usage. Only going back to normal levels on return to the main menu. Non of this happens in the recordings plugin - 2-3% cpu on 1080P HD ![]() In the log it goes to a folder & plays a lone wmv file for 30s then goes to a copy of the same file with 10 other m2ts videos plays for 3 mins to the end and returns to the menu

Just done the same tests rendering media in GraphStudioNext
Using LAF filters - same as NPVR (Obviously) less than 2% CPU and Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation about 5%. So DXVA with LAV Video (WMVDMO merit set to do not use) is definitely working. Blu-Ray Playback on NPVR (DVD) under 10% CPU (PDVD12 Codec)

I have just reverted to the files in 2.5.9 Patch R1 and it looks as though things are working OK CPU use now seems to be under 20% most of the time
![]() The files that have been replaced which are the latest versions are Nshared.dll Modified 27/10/2012 16.47hr NextPVR.exe Modified 28/10/2012 15.32hr Unmanaged.dll Modified 29/10/2012 05.23hr Somewhere in these 3 files there is something that is causing very heavy cpu usage in Videos Plugin (the native one)

I just took a look at the CPU usage on my Win8 machine playing a 720p mkv file I had, and mine looks fine, so it must be something machine/decoder/directshow related rather than NextPVR+Win8 being a bad combination.

I regard DXVA as a bit of a black art! With the help of DXVA checker I have managed to get DXVA working on NPVR even on SD but that is hardly worth bothering about. My main problem is not NPVR related but trying to get DXVA working with Flash Player which is used by BBC iPlayer as there is no easy way to confirm its working. However I have just found a couple of GPU monitors which tell you what the GPU is doing. Both "GPU Monitor" which is a gadget and "GPU Shark" display GPU usage as does AMD System Monitor which only works with AMD GPUs. This confirmed my suspicion that Flash was not using the GPU

Just tried all the latest patches as posted on the sticky.
Again playing Videos from folders with large numbers of Video files CPU usage jumps from less than 25% on the R1 patches to over 60% with the latest patches. I had to go back to R1 patches. Tomorrow (When I have more time - and exclusive use!) I will install the patches one by one and try to narrow down the culprit - also supply logs.

I have found that the NextPVR.exe from this post http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post445028 is the file that is causing very heavy cpu usage in Videos - in the attached logs the first watching is with this file, the second is with the previous version from the R1 Patch release. With this version cpu= 60-70% with the previous version cpu=15-20% -big difference. This doesn't seem to happen if there are only 1 or 2 files in the folder.
The NShared & Unmanaged patches before this date are OK
