I have discovered very high CPU usage in NPVR when using Direct show to play back Video - Videos that are playing back at 16 - 20% in GraphStudeoNext are running at 65-85% in NPVR (Enough to take the CPU Temp over 100C) This is WMV HD downloads and MKV Bluray Rips. I will have to do some testing this weekend - but in the meantime has anyone got any bright ideas. All was working well on vista

I have a question unrelated to your question Lao Pan......what tuner(s) do you have and did Windows 8 install them or did you have to manual install the drivers? I am curious if W7 drivers work in W8.

Once I got the network connection sorted - Turned DHCP server back on in the router and did a second install - I'd messed up a few settings the first time (And yes you can do a fresh install over a copy of 8 Upgrade no need to install your previous OS) All the drivers were installed Automagicaly that was the Videomate E700 PCI-E and PCTV DVB-T2 USB Nanostick - only Catalyst 12.10 and Realtek HD needed installing after.

I have done a bit of testing - WMV 720p VC1 File - One Copy on Hard Drive on Local Machine - One Copy on Unraid Server Share on Gigabit network.
LAF Splitter Audio & Video Decoder (DXVA Native) EVR Renderer ATI HD5670 - I believe LAf Video is the only way to get WMV Acceleration on ATI Card in Direct Show ?
Verified being used from Log & Connect to remote graph

In GraphStudioNext
Local Copy 11-15% CPU usage
Server Copy 16-18% CPU usage

In NextPVR
Local Copy 35-50% CPU usage
Server Copy 65-80% CPU Usage = High Temp Shutdown after about 5 mins (Need better cooling)

NPVR appears to be using very high CPU usage for rendering the file and also for network access.

LAV video decoder doesnot support VMW video decoding by its own. It usinq WMV DMO decoder do decode WMV.
SAF have full support of VC-1 DXVA decoding (over FFDshow DXVA decoder).

When it comes to .wmv/.mkv files, NextPVR just askes directshow to play them, and Windows takes care of the rest (choosing decoders etc).

I suspect it's due to not having DirectX installed and not related to actual playback, which was why I asked for logs.

Finaly Logs Attached
Took a while to find something that wouldn't offend Big Grin

Full Direct X was installed right at the start followed by web update - nothing extra added (apart from Bing Toolbar - damn missed that)

As said in post above in GraphStudio full DXVA in LAV Video with about 2% cpu for network overhead NPVR over 50% CPU + 25% for Network Overhead this on an AMD 5600 Dual Core.

Log is for playback from Local D drive
