This is not a GBPVR related issue, but i thought some of you know how to do video encoding and conversions. But i do burn most of my stuff on DVDs which is where i need help.

I often times give presentations where i like to include clips from shows or movies. I use xmpeg to extract the clip from a DVD, and then I clean it up using virtualdub. And i get an .avi clip that looks pretty good on my computer. I use the divx codecs when i do this.

What i've discovered though is that i can't take this clip and play it on another computer if they don't have the codec. Here's my question: Is there a way or a codec that is so standard that i can encode my files in so that when i transport files, i'm not stuck in the embarassing situation of audio but no video.

Hope this makes sense and hope someone knows how to help!
If you want to know why nPVR is the bomb, ask my wife!

you could try wmv, thats pretty much standard and would play on any windows machines, im unaware of any avi codecs that work on all window machines without the need of extra codecs.

mpeg1 you could also try, but the quality isnt as good. but will work on all machines (well im not sure if mac support mpeg, but they probably do).

Quicktime perhaps ? The way I've got around this in the past though is to convert to flash which is pretty much standard

There are several types of AVI file that can be played anywhere, but they're pretty huge. RLE, Intel Indeo, Intel IYUV etc.

XP always has an MPEG1 decoder, so this is an option also.
