It is typically bad practice to store any data files to the "Program Files" folder and UAC might block your account from reading and writing to this folder.

Yes, we typically recommend c:\epg or c:\mc2xml for this purpose (and c:\comskip for that purpose). Alternately you can create additional folders in the NPVR data directory (c:\users\public\npvr on Vista/7/8), but it's not the recommended location. In any case, you should never create directories in C:\Program Files by hand, nor should you allow data files to be created there.

I want to thank Martin, Whurlston, Graham, McBainUK and Johnsonx42 for your suggestions and patience.

It appears NPVR updated my guide last night between the hours of 2:00am and 3:00am, as I didn't see any lines in the log saying it couldn't find my UpdateEPG.bat file. Is there a way to definitively check this in the log?

Thanks!

Check the NRecord.log.

OK I might have spoken too soon. I checked the NRecord.log and found

Code:
2012-12-21 02:03:30.914    [DEBUG][8]    No C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Scripts\UpdateEPG.bat file found

After once again confirming the file was indeed there, I discovered the problem: My file was named 'UpgradeEPG.bat' instead of 'UpdateEPG.bat'. I'll monitor for another 24 hours and report back.

Regards.

You can run the EPG update in NPVR setup manually. Manual updates will be logged to NextPVR.log and automated (nightly) updates are logged to NRecord.log

As promised I am reporting the results. NextPVR correctly updated the EPG at around 2:03am my time. The incorrect .bat file file name was the culprit. Thanks to all for your help!

I was having the same problem as The_Keymaker until I found this thread. The problem was solved by replacing my UpdateEPG.bat file based on User Manual's mc2xml page with a new file based on code given in whurlston's post (page 1, #5). Suggestion: Perhaps mc2xml page of User Manual should be edited.

After 6 months of carefree use and great enjoyment, I have returned from a weeks vacation ( with HTPC turned off ) to find my TV listings empty, and I'm wondering if the problem has something to do with what is being discussed in this thread ? I will admit that I had a LOT of help setting up NPVR, and it has worked flawlessly for about 6 months. I am a total newbie to the whole world of epg scripts, logs, etc, so will need some hand-holding. Did something change in the xmltv updating process that would cause this to happen ? I have emptied the epg, stopped the npvr service, re-started the service, updated the epg, and still I get nothing. Where do I begin ? Help

Zip and post your logs folder

Windows Vista & Windows 7: C:\users\public\npvr\logs
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\logs

Also, your xmltv file if possible.
