Hi Sub,

I've two question about the recording feature:

When I select a movie while recording and click on "play" I get a black screen. With escape I can go back to the movie-list.
Is this feature implemented now ?

I tried to install a new manual recording-job. There I would select the start and stop time in one-minute steps.
I remember in a thread in this forum where you said, this function is in the next release.

Will this feature come ?

Thanks!

Bye,
Sebastian

When scheduling a manual recording, you can type in any time with the remote or keyboard. e.g. to have a recording start at 10:33, simply type 1 0 3 3.

You should be able to play a movie that is currently recording. The one hassle is that playback will stop at the duration the movie was when you started playback. e.g. If you started playback when the video had been recording for 20 minutes, playback will stop at this point. This is a microsoft thing I havn't found a work around for yet.

Actually, I don't think it is currently possible to play a show while it is being recorded. When I tired a couple of times to play a show while it was being recorded, nothing would come up. The show will not start to play and no error message will appear. I have an adpatec Videoh DVD Media Center USB2. Maybe the problem is just with my card.

Odd, works for me. Plenty of other users here have reported the behaviour I describe above, so it definitely works for some users.

I too cannot play while recording something and I have a pvr250. Do you have a logging system in the player, perhaps we can send you logs when we encounter strange behavior.

It works for me. I use it to schedule time shifting. It is a bit annoying that you have to restart playing sometimes several times. But it definitely works on my setup (see sig).

Hi Sub,

you wrote, that playing (if it would work) stops when the end of file has arrived (the end at the time when start playing).

When I record one movie with the hauppauge software and start playing with my media-mvp, the mvp plays the complete movie.
I think it is possible to play to the REAL end of the file.

This would be very fine!

Now I hope you can find the problem with the black screen and fix it.

Here in germany we say "TOY TOY TOY" :-)

Bye,

Sebastian

Actually, with the GB-PVR MVP software it will also play to the end of the file.

This playing only to the size of the file when playback started, is only a problem when playing via Directshow (VMR/OVERLAY/XCARD/PVR350). Microsoft effectively gives me two options:
- Play file using fixed size from time playback started (currently used for existing video playback). FF/RW/Pause is allowed.
- Play using unknown file size (currently used for livetv). No FF/RW/Skip allowed, Pause OK.

To change this behaviour I need to write a replacement for the Microsoft MPEG-2 Splitter filter. This is currently beyond me. I just dont know enough about the inner workings of directshow.

I've had a go at writing an MPEG-2 splitter filter in the past, and have had reasonable success. The splitter is working and can be placed in a graph and connect successfully to source filters and mpeg2 decoder filters. Playback appears to work fine until I seek to another part of the file, the video starts correctly playing correctly from the required part of the stream but the audio will remain silent for a while then reappear out of sync.

Something is going wrong with discontinuity flags or similar. If anyone here is intimately familiar with MPEG2 splitters/parsers or demux filters and wants to take a look for me, the help would be much appreciated. I've wasted many days looking at this in the past, before deciding I was making no progress and deciding to focus my attention elsewhere.
