Windows 8 and NPVR

I cannot get NPVR to work with my new Windows 8 computer. I have installed and uninstalled several times. I have copied old settings files, etc. to C:\users\public\npvr. I have installed the R2 patch and removed the patch. NPVR just sits there with a black screen and even F1 does not bring up any program guide or anything. It is just dead. I scanned for my channels, but nothing works beyond that. Thank you for any help you can provide - my logs are attached. BTW, the settings screen says it cannot find DirectX - I don't know why as I have DirectX 11 pre-installed on the computer (verified with dxdiag).

UPDATE: I am now able to get audio but no video picture. I installed AC3 Filter and changed the settings to recognize it. I didn't have audio before - now I do.

UPDATE NEXT DAY: upon waking I went back into Decoders and set the MPEG2 Video and H.264 Video decoders to Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD10) and now I have video. But apparently now my audio (AC3 Filters) skips and stutters at times. I will have to play with it some more to see if it can be fixed. Apparently setting the video decoders to Microsoft, which was the default, will not work.

I installed NextPVR on Windows 8 just yesterday, you will need the DirectX 9.0c runtimes and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtimes versions linked to on the Quick Start wiki page.

Thank you for your advice. I trust that installing DX9 won't overwrite and mess up DX11?

Okay, I downloaded DX9 and already have multiple version of the VC++ 2008 runtimes. But still no picture. F1 still doesn't bring up program guide when channel is "running".

This is probably a decoder issue. Lots of us use SAF to get all the decoders that anyone could need. Send a Private Message to Hoborg to get the "unlocked" version.

I had the same problem with stuttering audio in NextPVR on Windows 8, and I fixed it by installing LAV Audio Decoder from here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191

It's the same decoder from the SAF program listed above, but you don't need to get the "unlocked" version.
