Every now and then on a recording I get what I can only describe as ghosting. I'm running the 2.5.9 release of nPVR with DirecTV connected to my collosus via HDMI. I'm using VMR9. Not particularly partial to any decoders, heck I don't even know the differences. The recording will play with the ghosting on the main PC or any client, PC or NMT. I haven't found a pattern yet except it does seem to do it more often on the long recordings like a football game.

It seems unlikely that this is added by NextPVR. Does anything similar happen when watching live on a TV (without any computers interfering)? Any chance of a dodgy cable or loose connection?

If that is an antenna reception it might be a refelction of the signal itself, I'v seen that myself.

DirectTV is a satellite service, but the Colossus is doing an analog HD encoding. Since it is happening on the nmt I suspect it is either how the analog is responding to sun outages either directly or on the backhaul.

That might very well be.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry it took a bit for me to respond.

The ghosting will show on basically anything that plays the file that gets affected this way. But it doesn't do this on every recording, only occasionally. I don't think I've ever seen this while watching a live stream from that DirecTV box / nPVR / Any client though that is a rare occurrence also (live streaming). It is a dedicated box (DirecTV) for the machine running nPVR.
Could it possibly be the machine, maybe the HD? Core i-3 with multiple drives (1.5 to 2 TB) on Windows 7 64 bit. I'll swap the recordings to another drive to eliminate that. I'll check all the connections again also. Does it matter to the quality of recording if it uses HDMI or Component from the DirecTV box to the Colossus?

HDMI should give less chance for interferences in the signal line, with component and coax cables there is always a slight chance for "ringing" in the cable if the impedance is not perfectly adapted. I have not tested it myself, but some say that it pays off not to buy the cheapest HDMI cables.
