I have had several instances of late of recordings starting but never finishing. The logs show that the recording started fine, but there is no end recording listed. I am at a bit of a loss trying to track down the source of this problem.
The logs attached show the problem where the recording started, at 20:29, another recording started at 21:05 (may not have started correctly) then nothing until the EPG update at 06:00 the next morning.
The machine that is running nPvr also runs GB-PVR (no tuners) for access to old dvr-ms recordings via MVP's. Nothing else runs on the machine (XP), so I am at a loss as to what may be causing the problem.

the graph didn't stop correctly for the 20:29 recording, and then it got stuck starting the 21:05 recording; at that point NRecord was effectively hung, though the EPG update thread lived on. Is either recording playable?

In Settings, check the box that says "use out of process digital recording". Then it will use NDigitalHost.exe to run the tuner instead of running it in the NRecord process; NRecord is able to recover from some NDigitalHost hangs, though my recent experience is that NRecord will just hang waiting for the crashed NDigitalHost.

OK, I have set the "Out of Process" option and rebooted, will keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
It appears as if I only get these problems when there are multiple shows to record. It does not seem to be related to a particular tuner.

None of the recordings are viewable. One of them is only 33k, and two of the others never made it to disk.

"NRecord is able to recover from some NDigitalHost hangs, though my recent experience is that NRecord will just hang waiting for the crashed NDigitalHost."
Does this mean that I may still have problems running it out of process?

Thanks for the quick response.

this is what I usually see for this sort of crash. it suggests that the actual failure happened when the recording was first started, and that everything else that happened after that (the graph stop failure and resulting NRecord hangs) are simply side effects of the original problem.

Yes, unfortunately it does. However, running out of process gives a better chance of recovery. Further, whatever improvements get made in NPVR's fault recovery in the future will almost certainly be in that area. I've been petitioning sub to make calls to NDigitalHost non-blocking or have a 5 second time-out, so that if a driver call in NDigitalHost hangs then NRecord could at least continue on with other tuners rather than just hanging as it does now.

For me, and any many others, running out of process ended these hangs completely. Keeping fingers crossed ...
