Comskip rules for XBMC.

One of my original pet peeves about XBMC is that comskip files would hide the true duration of the file, and the position was minus any commercials My 30 minute shows would show as 22 minutes etc. I found this great tip posted on the SageTV forums by LehighBre http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthre...stcount=55 pointing out this donator version option for comskop

- Parameter added: edl_skip_field, sets the skip indicator in an EDL file. Default value is '0'. Set to edl_skip_field=3 to have better skipping on XBMC

Once set the true duration is shown. It's not as nice as NextPVR because the commercials dont show on the timeline, but the skipping is fantastic.

Not to back up too far - but for some reason I get no autoskipping of commercials in XBMC - how does one configure this? In the comskip documentation there is option to output a vdr file. I am currently outputting both that and the edl with default "0" value. Playback of recording via xbmc from npvr add-on do not auto skip. Is there an additional config step in xbmx?

Skipping works great from npvr as a client.

The NextPVR PVR add-on doesn't currently support comskip or resume, it is only available via the libraries or x-newa

More accurately - the XBMC PVR framework doesn't currently support comskip, so PVR addons cant provide this functionality.

Even more accurately, Frodo doesn't support it, but it is currently implemented in some test clients using pieces of this pull https://github.com/opdenkamp/xbmc-pvr-addons/issues/173 The foundation change being openly discussed by the PVR devs in that thread and the linked pull https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/2250

Me again ;-) Just wondering, my comskip works perfectly in the NextPVR Client however in X-NEWA to skip commercials, any ideas?

If your files aren't recorded to a shared folder, you need to enable sharing of the folder and also enable path substitution in advancedsettings.xml to change the driver letter to smb: or nfs: notation.

So that would be the advancedsettings.xml for XBMC on each client that I need to adjust or something on the NextPVR side? Not sure how that would work on my machines running OSX/XBMC if it's an adjustment on the client side....?

Yes client side. You should be able to use the same file on OSX that you create for Windows. It won't work for vlc transcoding and your ATV2.
