I edited the above post before the two responses came back....what I now am finding is that changing the <CheckForRenamedRecordings> to true causes the recording to be removed altogether from the recordings list...which is not as expected?

The utility I'm using, MCEBuddy, seems to first move the original to archive folder (if that's what is set within MCEBuddy), then places the transcoded file in the original location with the new extension.

Either my db updating is incorrect or the MKV extension is enabled for media playback but not recording playback....

Martin - are you saying MKV's cannot be played back at all from recordings menu? I have tried on a true client machine as well as on the machine running as recording server also.

<NoRemoveWhenTreeMissing>false</NoRemoveWhenTreeMissing>

Is there a double negative here that isn't helping?
Is <NoRemoveWhenTreeMissing>false equivalent to "Do remove when tree Missing" = True

I am saying I know that they can't be played by clients. They used to work from the graph on the host but I can't test that anymore.

@graham - that setting is used for the case where you have a recording directory on an external drive or network share which may not always be available: that says not to go removing recordings when the entire structure is missing. it doesn't apply to recordings on a local drive which is always present.

I did manage to transcode the files and keep them in the database - but left me with an issue I would like to solve. The transcode option that seems to solve my skip issues with some atsc recordings leaves me with an mp4 file. I can play that file back from "Recordings" on the host, but on my client windows PC, which is in my primary viewing area, the file won't play. Martin had mentioned clients can only play ts files from "recordings" - true? Unfortunate for me. Wonder if there is a work-around better than placing the files in my media folder and watching from "Videos" - would rather not for family acceptance - although they do play this way. Are there any other files that play on clients as recordings beyond ts?

What other limitations are there on a pc client not an issue on the host? In my case, in addition to the playback issues, I cannot use channel up or down (+ or -) to chnage channels, alhough it works fine on host machine.

NextPVR only has client/server support for streaming the types of files that it produces, ie Transport Stream files.

Unfortunately each and every file format would require a different sort of client/server server implementation, with different custom directshow filters etc, so its a big job to add support for each type of format. Instead I just decided to focus on the one type the app recordings, and not worry about the multitude of different file formats users could be transcoding to. mkv, divx/xvid avi, mp4, mpeg-ps etc which would have required a huge amount of work.

Thanks -understood. It wouldn't be a problem at all if some of the TS files I get from some atsc stations (via HDHomRun Dual) have time issues that prevent them for supporting seek - skipping etc. I am soon switching over to QAM cable and will see if these issues get cleared up.
