Closed Captioning - Doesn't Work

So far, I have not been able to get closed captioning to work with NextPVR. Ctrl-X brings up the Closed Captions option, but when selected, nothing happens. I'm using the Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder for MPEG1 Audio. I've also tried the LAV Audio Decoder and the AC3 Filter. Is there an audio decoder that handles closed captions for NextPVR? Closed Captions work just fine in Windows Media Center (Windows 7 Ultimate). Any ideas?

It doesn't matter what audio decoder you use. These aren't relevant for closed captions.

The video decoder is responsible for decoding the closed captions. Only some decoders are able to provide closed captions in a format that NextPVR can used. An example is the MainConcept MPEG2 decoder that comes with the Hauppauge WinTV software.

Are there any free video decoders that work with NextPVR to provide closed captions? Apparently the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder does the job for the Windows Media Center.

You can use the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder with NextPVR in Win 7. It should be in the drop down list in Settings --> Decoders.

Unfortunately the MainConcept decoder is the only one I know for sure works for this.

I already have Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder selected for MPEG2 Video and H.264 Video for NextPVR with Windows 7 Ultimate and it does not work. I can select Closed Captions from Ctrl-X or the Subtitle Stream Menu, but nothing happens. As I said, it works fine in Windows Media Center. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I'm still looking for a free video decoder that will process closed captions.

The Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder will definitely not work for closed captions. It uses a different format of closed caption data.
