Does the WinTV Usb 2 work with NPVR? I am running Windows 8 64-bit. It has a 64-bit driver for the device and the device works fine with SnapStream but I am looking to move away from SnapStream since it is no longer support to NPVR.

When I open the settings and look at devices, the WinTV is not listed.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

If it works in SnapStream on Win8 64 bit, then it should also work in NextPVR. See the notes in the sticky 'getting started' thread for info on getting analog working (basically you need to install SoftPVR components).

I switched to other decoders and have some video also. Do I need the directX to get better performance?

Yeah, the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder no longer supports third-party applications under Windows 8. Are you saying you have video but not audio? MPEG1 Audio decoder might be your problem in that case. (If you're getting digital channels via another tuner, then AC3 Audio.)

Are you referring to the DirectX 9.0c end-user runtimes that are listed as required software on the Wiki page given below? If you don't have them installed, then you should see a warning message every time you open Settings about "software rendering" (unless this has changed for version 2.6.2). I would advise you to install them! However, I ran NPVR for about a month without installing them myself, and I didn't notice any real problems aside from the warning message - perhaps because I have a pretty fast quadcore processor. I only use digital QAM channels, and I've wondered if the runtimes were only needed for analog.

Ok I have audio and video working. I was just wondering if I should install DirectX or not and if I even could with Windows 8.

It runtime dx9 and it is worthwhile, assuming your card supports it.

Now that xzb6np mentions it, "System requirements" at the linked download page do not include Windows 8.

if you don't have the directx runtime error showing up in Settings or in the NPVR.log, then you don't need the runtime.

NextPVR doesn't check whether you have the runtime installed or not, rather it makes directx calls to setup the main menu rendering and if those calls fail it reverts to software rendering, logs the error and displays the warning. In other words, it complains when something actually doesn't work.

Ok I installed directx 9 into Windows 8 and the NPVR settings dialog still shows that I do not have directX installed. Even after rebooting.
