Hey everyone.

Been trying to get NextPVR working so I can watch TV on my computer. I originally had an HP Elite Desktop that came with a Hauppauge WinTV 1800. It does FM, QAM, ATSC etc.. With windows 7 I was orignally using Windows Media Center.

Today I picked up a new desktop (HP Envy) and moved my 1800 over to it. Installed and updated all the drivers etc. Installed NextPVR and did all the patches. Next PVR lists two devices (ATSC/QAM Hauppauge WinTC 885 BDA Tunder/Demod) U try to scan channels and it says Scan Complete but never finds anything.. Any help would be much appreciated. I am Running Windows 8 64 bit and we have Cox Cable here. Its just standard cable through the line, no cable boxes/digital cable etc

npvr.log contains this ...
Quote:2013-04-23 19:43:48.979 [ERROR][1] Error initialising Direct3D: SlimDX.Direct3D9.Direct3DX9NotFoundException: Direct3DX 9 was not found. Please install the latest DirectX end-user redistributable package from Microsoft.
The DirectX install may have gone haywire ... try http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post455664

The npvr.log also contains
Quote:2013-04-23 19:45:02.818 [DEBUG][1] locked=0, present=0, strength=41000, quality=0 (took 172ms to check)
The locked, present and quality = 0 usually indicates a lack of a signal coming in on the coax. Are all of the connections good? Connected to the correct connector on the card?

Installed the DirectX packaged and restarted and same issue. It's the same cable and card that I was using with Media Center. Just not sure why it's saying there are no signals. Their are 3 coax connections on the card and it's labeled FM ANT / TV Cable Ant / DTV Ant. I've always used the Middle one (TV Cable Ant)

EDIT: Brought in a small tv that we had and plugged it up. It displays channels fine.

Perhaps you are watching analog channels outside NextPVR. With Hauppauge devices you should install WinTV 7 and the the analog device becomes available.

The Hauppauge device came with my PC and I don't remember having a WinTV disk. When I tried to download it it wouldnt let me because I didnt have the disk.. Now I'm using a new desktop with this card and Windows 8 and since Media Center is not available without paying I was looking for another alternative. Will NPR not work for just watching tv? I really dont care about any extra features/recording etc. Just want to watch.

Well it looks like this new pc and windows 8 is not happy with my vinyl cutter software and I have to use that for work so Im going to downgrade back to my win 7 pro. Maybe then everything will work happily.

Hi Sinabu, I have the same card as you and Martin was right: The central connector is strictly for analog. There's a second option for enabling analog devices in NPVR, but it's a little tricky. See this Wiki page:
http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...geSoftPVR?

I suggest that you connect the cable to the DTV connector and scan for QAM channels. (For over-the-air channels, connect an antenna to the DTV connector and scan for ATSC channels.) If your cable provider has a mix of analog and QAM channels, then you will of course need a splitter. If you downgrade to win 7, then you can use the Microsoft video decoder for MPEG 2. With win 8, you'll need to download a decoder. For ATSC and QAM channels, you will probably need a decoder for AC3 audio in any case (but don't worry: free downloads are available). BTW my cable provider went all-digital in December, so I moved the cable to the DTV connector, abandoned Vista Media Center and installed NPVR.

Hi Zeb,

Thanks for the info. I tried the first option and while it did extract the wintv and a few things there was some errors. I loaded up NPVR and didn't see any changes or anything so not sure how that works through the program or how to get it work. The instructions didn't include any more setup after that.

So Far Im still on Win8. I was able to get my other issue resolved (Vinyl Cutting Software) with my machine with some updates. Still trying to find a way to watch tv here without paying MS more money for pro...

I ended up getting WinTV to install and I'm using that now since all our channels are delivered analog here I guess. WinTV is a little more basic than Media Center and I didn't have to pay anything extra so it will work..

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

Still no analog device in Settings/Devices? The WinTV7 link is broken, so here it is for convenience: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/su...intv7.html

Note that the latest version is 2.7, meaning that the bat file needs a little Edit with Notepad. It's important to Save As, add .bat to file name and select file type All Files because a .txt file just won't cut it.

If you got that far, here's another Wiki page that might be helpful: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alogDevice

I still say you should also try scanning for QAM channels with cable hooked to DTV jack. It might be that most of them are encrypted, but probably at least your local channels are available as Clear QAM (unencrypted digital), maybe a whole lot of other channels too.
