If your new router is positioned differently from the previous one or is a different make/model you could have "dead spots" of wi-fi coverage.
I moved house last year and the router I have couldn't cover two of the rooms in the last house (minimal signal unless I sat in the right spot) - the same router covers all rooms in the new house with nearly max signal strength in all of the rooms.
