Problem after June 2013 Windows Updates

Has anyone else had problems after installing the June updates for Windows 8 ??

On Wednesday morning I installed the Updates in 2 batches - the first batch went ok but the second batch (2 dot net 3.5 patches and KB2821895 not automatically ticked on the first run) - on restart while configuring updates crashed out and restarted the computer for a second time, but then installed.

On Wednesday night we set a recording and went to bed. On coming down in the morning the HTPC's lights were on but nobody was home - in the end only a reset got the thing to reboot upon which it configured the updates again. The recorded program had the red recording service stopped during recording message and was about 40 mins short - obviously the logs just stopped.

Exactly the same thing happened last night.

On doing a google search I have found that a lot of people are having problems with KB2821895 and once it has installed there is no way to uninstall it :mad:

from an elevated command prompt
Ive done that and will see if that fixes the problem - and will report back.

Any one else got any bright ideas?

Just to reassure you I have been having the same problem. Every morning I would get up and find the light fixed and nothing operating a reboot would completely fix it, including sleeping and waking but next morning it would be looked again. I was suspicious because it started on a Wednesday morning and MS do their updates on a tuesday, so I uninstalled all updates prior to that point to no effect.

Wednesday this week I unloaded some stuff I wasn't using but decided that since removing the patches had not changed anything I re-installed those patches plus the ones that had subsequently been delivered. Yesterday and today the box was working fine. I suspect that MS have now done something to fix this i.e. patched the patch..

I wonder if KB2836939 for most Windows versions other than Win8 might affect plans to move NextPVR to .NET 4? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2836939

I wouldn't worry, I am running the .NET 40 version on both my Vista backend and Win7 client have that patch and it is running extremely well.

I do not seem to have a problem after installing the updates.

Last month I tried to do a clean install of Vista on my server three times on different disks and each time all went well until I tried to install .NET 4 which several utilities I use with NextPVR need. Windows would hang and my 2TB data disk started reporting I/O errors so I gave up and went back to using the original disk which had .NET 4 and everything worked as normal. I have since bought an HP Microserver and that had no problems installing .NET 4.

After 2 nights of normal recordings - it would appear that the DISM has repaired Windows adequately.

I just wish Microsoft tested patches better before releasing them to the unsuspecting public!
