Live TV - Blank Screen but has Sound

Hi,

When I go to Live TV, I'm seeing blank screen but get sound. I've tried all of the renderers (EVR, VMR9, VRM9 CUSTOM, VRM9 FSE, VRM7) with no success. However, I can record a show, then play back with both video and sound using Windows media player.

I'm using HDHomeRun Dual Tuner which connects directly to my router, Windows 7, NextPVR 2.6.2

Please help.

You probably need to add NextPVR.exe to the ffdshow video decoder's whitelist or you could try a different video decoder.

In Windows 7 I think you should start with the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder

I think you have another problem though it looks like that NextPVR thinks you are trying to play an encrypted stream. Do you have

<AlternateOSDForMissingVideo>false</AlternateOSDForMissingVideo>

in config.xml?

Please give me step by step instructions on how to add an application to the whitelist of ffdshow. Thanks.
EDIT: I was able to find and insert NextPVR.exe application into ffdshow but it did not fix the issue.

According to Microsoft, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder is not supported on 64 bit machine like mine. Where and how do I access config.xml? Thanks.

What version of Windows 7 are you running? It should be available on Home Premium and Ultimate. Does it appear in the dropdown list in the decoders setup in NextPVR?

I agree with whurlston and mvallevand, you should select Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder for MPEG2 Video. It would be very surprising if you don't have it, since you have the audio decoder:

Granted, Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder cannot deliver AC3 audio to third-party applications under any Windows version, so you probably didn't get any audio until you selected ffdshow for AC3 Audio decoder. (Another option would be AC3Filter, which is a free download.) If you're determined to use ffdshow for MPEG2, here's a helpful post: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post457284

As for mvallevand's other suggestion, there's no need to edit config.xml. Under Settings -> Misc2, uncheck "Use alternate OSD with missing video" if checked.

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem as popeye - Win7 (Ultimate) 64bit, video & audio work fine NextPVR app on server, but the client (on XMBC on Rpi) gets audio & black screen. I've checked the suggestions above & all other things I've found. Also - Firewalls off, SAF 6.2 (unlocked) installed.
Should I create a separate post or join in with this one please?

To all helpers,

I went to Microsoft web site and it said "Note This filter is not supported on IA-64-based platforms." That got me confused. Also, I thought the selection in 'Video Renderer' ((EVR, VMR9, etc.) was the only choices for the video of the Live TV but was wrong. When Zeb mention to select Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder under 'MPEG2 Video', it works! I had the assumption the decoders are only for recording purposes. Thanks everyone involved for helping me out.

No, decoders are only for playback purposes. For recording, NPVR simply writes the exact transport stream received from the broadcaster.

As to "IA-64" that's the original 64-bit Itanium server instruction set; the 64-bit "normal" people use on the desktop is called AMD64, x86-64, or even EM64T. 99.9% of servers, even big super-serious ones also use AMD64. Itanium IA64 is very, very rare (and expensive, and largely useless now).
