Found it I think
Every Sunday my epg updates and some times I get double ups (ie listings on top of each other meaning 2 presses of the remote to get to next time slot)
By Monday this comes right and the app loads ok
So I emptied the epg and the app loaded

that shouldnt prevent the app from loading. would just make the now/next show the next program in the mini guide as the same program. the only epg it loads during "Please wait" is to get the mini guide data. if there is a double and and a lot of channels (100+ i suppose) that may take a while to load, but it shouldnt prevent the app from starting. like I said, its just a webpage, no webpage should take down a browser, otherwise its a bug inthe browser and should be fixed.

In the next version (after the next release of nextpvr, already started working on changes sub has made) I'll add a substatus of what its currently loading. also the next version will load the minigudie data a lot smarter (sub has add api calls for this).

well the new 5900 wouldn't connect up when entering the ip etc
and the 6500 just crashes(not that care about this play till they fix the firmware)

emptied epg reloaded and both started fine

all good now that I know what causes it

Stu: So would you recommend this player, for general playback / smart features, as well as the ability to add npvr later, once a final is released.

I need to replace the PC in my bedroom which really only runs plex, but wold be nice to be able to play a recording / live tv occasionally.
It's on special for $220 at the moment

That's a hard question to answer
The 5900 would be my first choice I haunted out a second one ($109) because it skips properly (very important, main reason I use npvr)

The 6500 doesn't skip properly and until Samsung fix the firmware, if ever then this makes the 6500 pretty useless for npvr
plex gets around the skip issue by streaming but this is less than ideal skipping takes ages to happen(not instant like the 5900)

the upside is the 6500 is really responsive when using other apps like tvnz on demand, scrolling, loading
and if it wasn't for the skipping it would win hands down

Yeah, trouble is those wanting to buy a TV rather than a bluray player have no idea if it's going to work (skip) etc....had decision to make...I know it works for Reven on his TV however this is only a small subset of Samsung's TV's...
Specs
Server: Intel Gen3 i7, OS-Windows 7 (64-bit), 8Gb RAM, 60Gb SSD OS drive, 8TB RAID5 Storage, 2 x dual tuner HDHomeRun (DVB-T)
Client: 4 x Intel NUC i3 4Gb RAM, 120Gb SSD
Client: Samsung [AU][DVB-T][2013]BD-F6500 skipping broken

it actually comes down to the recordings not the player i've found.

my recordings worked fine, but the two sample ones i was sent didnt.

if you run a ts through ffmpeg and it produces a lot of PTR errors, then you will need to reencode (maybe just transcode) your recordings afterwards to get them to work 100%. if there is no errors, you could send me a sample video (20mins, upload to mega.co.nz or dropbox or something) and i could try it on my tvs (i have a 2012 available to test, a 2013 and a 2012 BRP).

I disagree with Reven as the 5900 works fine if it were the recordings it would not skip properly on either
Plus I get the exact same results as the guy in oz
Maybe there are errors in the recordings but the player should be able to handle this
Why dos every recording skip exactly the same , at the sme points
