I started using gbpvr and npvr just over 3 years ago - great tool!

But, my old motherboard just died and I now have a semi-new computer running Win 7 64-bit Home Premium OEM. Same video card - ATI All-in-Wonder HD. Checked prerequisites and I think I exceed all. DirectX is 11, well beyond 9.0c. Windows Installer seems to be 5.0+. .NET seems to be 4.5, I think. .NET 2.0 won't install - says not compatible with a 64-bit system. C++ 2008 stuff seemed to go OK. None of them mean much to me . . . (Took MULTIPLE efforts of versions installed/uninstalled, etc. Win 7 seems to have some stuff already in it.)

NPVR seemed to install OK (finally) and I got the standard default screen. Unfortunately, after I chose right-clicked and then Settings and Device, Device is empty! No ATI card - no nothing. Bummer. What do I do next???

I didn't load any drivers for the ATI card for Win 7 - it just works. And when I run dxdiag to check on DirectX it shows the ATI. And I get a display on my TV as a second/extended monitor on my Sony LCD TV, using the HDMI out of the video card.

Suggestions, please? Do I need to take the chance of trying to manually "change" drivers? How do I tell NPVR to find the device?

I think I have attached a log. I tried to .zip all files, but one in that folder wouldn't. Perhaps still in use? Win 7 differs from XP in showing icons in the "system tray."

Thanks in advance, and for the past use of NPVR.

I'd check the wiki on installing SoftPVR

2013-09-08 14:26:48.854 [DEBUG][1] FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (HCW) MPEG Multiplexer-Plus
2013-09-08 14:26:48.854 [DEBUG][1] MainConcept mux not present. Disabling analog support.

Martin's advice is relevant if you need to tune analog signals. For digital signals, you don't need SoftPVR.

You do need to install a driver for your card however. You are confusing the fact that you get video OUTPUT with the default driver provided in windows, vs. the video INPUT side of the card which you probably don't have a driver installed for ("All In Wonder" cards are a video card and a tuner device combined on a single card, but they are separate devices each in need of their own drivers). Your NPVR logs show no capture devices of any sort installed.

You'll need to go to AMD's support site and download the tuner drivers for your system; it's probably all part of a single "Catalyst" driver package. I'd give you an exact link, but AMD's US site is down for maintenance at the moment.

Right I misread, I thought it was just an AIW. The AIW HD is hard to configure though, so probably make sure it is working in Media Center before trying NextPVR.

Thanks. I'm looking into Softpvr - it has some issues. Discussed below.

I'll also look at the drivers - yes I also looked earlier and found the site was down. I'll install them when/if I find them. Didn't realize I should, since, as you said, I confusedly thought just getting "proper" output meant I was fine.

My other ignorance - I don't even know if my AIW HD is a digital or analog device. Sorry! Seems like a digital thing to me, but I don't know diddly! What I DO recall is that the Catalyst Media Center or whichever software that came with it was LOUSY. Lost data/channels often and was clunky. GBPVR and NPVR are much better and stable.

Re: SoftPVR. The NPVR link to WinTV stuff may not result in current stuff. I downloaded the big file and ran it, but I don't see a spftpvr file there. So I used the Softpvr from NPVR. The unzipped batch file, the only file there - is that right? - wouldn't run - just a flash. Turns out it won't run even if you click the Run As Administrator - it still makes the check. So I found how to open a command prompt in an elevated window, where it has permission already. The batch file ran, but it quickly stops at "unexpected \temp1 file encountered. Trying to see if I can edit it to run. But it doesn't seem to have the other referenced files . . . I haven't looked elsewhere yet but they weren't in the zip. I may have to step back and relook at what it is I am really being directed to do.

Thanks for the replies. My efforts continue, for a while. Then I'll pick up tomorrow after a while away from the machine.

And re-reading - my signals come OTA, but are digital TV, since analog quit a year or two ago. So mine are ?? analog signals since they come over the air?

You do not need SoftPVR to tune OTA channels, all of which are digital ATSC these days.

I got through at the AMD website, and they suggest the latest AMD Catalyst 13.4 for the All-in-Wonder HD on W7 64-bit: [Edit: Removed link in light of subsequent posts.]

no, zeb's link is just the display driver, it won't do anything for the tuner (and actually as far as I know that driver wouldn't support the video of the AIW HD either).

you need to tell AMD's driver selection menus that you want a driver for a TV Tuner, then All-in-Wonder, then All In Wonder HD, then Windows 7 64-bit. Right now that isn't working, but it should work later.

I actually did exactly that, but by all means double-check if possible. I believe there's also an auto-detect option.

AMD seems to be making the tv tuner driver very difficult to find. They call it the "WDM Driver", and it hasn't been included in the Catalyst package for some time now. It's *supposed* to be on the "Optional Downloads" tab when you select a card with a tuner, but it doesn't always appear.
