I got a chance to try the new version and I can configure it now. The interface was pretty laggy on my nook, my epg has 80 channels. Trying to watch sd or hd live tv results in a couple seconds of playback after a long pause before it starts then the playback freezes using any of the 4 playback modes. I should have time this weekend to give it a proper try and gets some logs but this week has been very busy for me so this was all the further I got with it.
Don't spend time on getting logs for performance in Frodo. There are some changes in the next version of NextPVR/NEWA that dramatically improve the epg load times but it will never be as fast as sub's PVR which does a lot of background loading. In fact pretty much the only thing you could do other than use a small channel group would be turning off the pvr function to get back a few cycles. Surprising, I don't consider my cheapo Android laggy when wifi is reasonable.
As for playback
Native - Use the same streaming as sub's
Timeshift - Might improve streaming if you share your live tv folder
VLC (only one working for me for SD and HD) you need to change NEWA defaults which aren't very good. I watched the fourth quarter of the Houston comeback without too much problem.
Direct - currently just a template for those who want to stream directly from their HDHR's
