I abandoned XP for Vista for my server and clients about two years ago and this removed several annoying problems. Unfortunately Intel does not produce a Vista video driver for my new Celeron nettop client so have had to revert to XP as I donât have a Windows 7 license.
XP seems to work reliably most of the time apart from certain programmes which cause the video to freeze although the sound continues. What causes the problem is a still image such as a photo, map or text on screen for a few seconds. I watched a news quiz last night which was especially bad locking up every minute or so when there was a full screen photo or image from a newspaper. Its similar to a problem I previously reported which disappeared when I moved to Vista which was then caused by some images at the start of commercial breaks.
