I think I found the solution to your problem. I was experiencing the exact same wake-up and thought it was the recording service as well. But, I too have nothing scheduled to record.
It's the EPG auto-update! If you open up NPVR, right-click anywhere and select Settings then go to Misc 2, you will see the EPG auto-update is probably checked and defaulted to 2:35AM or something like that.
Either uncheck the box or set it to a better time. I paid for a Schedules Direct account so I do want it to stil update just not at 2:30AM, so I changed it to update around 6PM just before I get home from work!
