Greetings-

I'm new to the GB-PVR idea. This software is amazing and the discussions in this forum has been most helpful in getting me up and going. There is one issue that I can't seem to get a handle on.

.wmv and .avi will play flawlessly in the GBPVR application in Windows, but not through the MediaMVP client, yet no problem playing them through the Hauppage MediMVP Client. So, my guess is there must be a problem with the GB-PVR client software or the videos plugin.

When I try, the screen on the TV goed blank for about 5 seconds, followed by the intro screen where the MVP is trying to connect to a server. Occasion
onally the MVP will get stuck on the black screen and not respond to any commands other than to power off and restart.

I've combed the forums for answers, but have not found any. Is this a known limitation or is there a fix?

It depends on the filters and codecs installed on you machine. For a good description of me work through the problem with some users, read here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=4712

Bottom line is, it works for some people, and not for others.

My primary focus in GB-PVR is the file types natively supported by the MVP, namely MPEG2.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure the other thread was dealing with the same type of issue. The problem I am having differs in that I never see any video come up on the screen, it stays black all the time.

Is there a list of codecs that would be needed? Recommended hardware?

Am I the only one having the problem with .wmv? (Truthfully, being unable to play .avi is not a big deal.)

I had the same problem, so as Sub said, you should investigate the same paths I went through and it might solve your problems...

I found some info in this thread (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5963) about downloading/installing XP Codex 1.2.1. This has allowed me to play the first few seconds of the video, and also prevents the reboot. Excellent!

I'm still left with the problem of only being able to view1-2 seconds of the .wmv before it kick me back to the videos menu.

I'll keep trying to figure out a fix, but if anyone has run into the problem and found a solution it would be great.

Thanks for the help so far- :o

Unfortunately, XP codex also installs FFDshow, which is what was causing my issues... Seriously, go through the thread Sub linked you, it has a modified version of Trans2MVP with more logging, info on graphedit to see what your computer is doing, codecs that are needed by GBPVR, etc...

I installed the updated Trans2MVP file, but I didn't notice any difference. Also, FFDshow didn't seem to help (although I'm not sure I got it configured quite right either...)

The only progress I was able to make was by increading the "MVP Transcode pre-play delay" playback time. When this was put to the max (5000) I could get about 20 seconds of the video to play before it kicks me back to the video menu.

At this point I've got to assume the limitation is the speed of my machine, and it just cant keep up with the transcoding rate. I'v got a p4-2.4, 1GB RAM, dual 200GB SATA's. This hardware setup should do the trick I thought.

The puzzling part is that the Hauppage MediaMVP client plays .wmv flawlessly with minimal delay. I don't get it-

Thanks for the tips. I'll keep working on it and post any progress. Getting this to work would put the icing on the cake. Great piece of software! Big Grin

Here are the log files. I have found that sometimes the files will play for a while (4 mins), others wont at all. I enabled ffdshow and the resize option before copying these log files.
