I think everyone's concerns could be addressed by showing slightly different options for the case where a show is currently airing, AND there's an existing recording for that show that is not in-progress (i.e. Martin's scenario where he stops the recording during the intermission of a hockey game and then wants to come back and either just watch live or start another recording when the next period starts):

"Close"
"Play"
"Record"
"Watch"
"Find All"

So "Play" would play the existing recording, "Record" would start a new recording of the same show (via the usual dialog), "Watch" would just play the channel live. I don't really think a Delete option is needed in this case. Additionally, the record button on the remote (or ctrl-k) would start a new Quick Recording as normal.

Also it might be more clear if shows with completed recordings in the past showed a slightly different color. I guess it still ought to be red... maybe a bit darker? orange-ish? a bit towards purple? I dunno...

As long as as a user can watch or record sure, noting of course that play/delete become one to many. ie hockey_blahblah.ts, hockey_blahblah-1.ts

This feature just isn't worth the effort. I'm putting it back to how it was previously.

I'm not interested in it enough to introduce different colors, and the ability to play or delete multiple files for a single show etc. Too much work.

your call of course, it's your program. May I suggest the following instead:

- currently airing shows are handled exactly like in past versions: if they are recording they show the in-progress options, if they're not currently recording they show the regular options; no special consideration for show currently airing that also has a recording not-in-progress (this would be a somewhat unusual situation anyway, a recording canceled prior to the end of the airtime that the user wants to return to, and users seem comfortable with the existing handling)
- past shows with completed recordings show the new options to play/resume/delete the associated recording

forget different colors, that was just idle musing, not a requirement.

the above would meet my wish to be able to play completed recordings from the EPG, while not muddying the handling of currently airing shows at all. best of both.
