Hi all

Ive been looking at getting a network Radio (have a number of projects that need it).

I know NPVR will do radio, have a number of questions....

1 - Does NPVR support RADIO with RDS (the pulling of text from the station for the track names etc..)

2 - Will NPVR work with XBMC for radio (i assume through the LIVE TV section as RADIO would be a channel?)
Found the answer for this one, its under LIVE TV has a Radio section....

3 - Will NPVR push RDS details to XBMC?
4 - I assume i will need more than one radio card to allow me to have different radio stations running?
5 - Could i use 3 XBMC devices to listen to the same radio "channel" on each so NPVR pushes the same station to all of them (assuming i only had 1 radio card so getting 1 station only)?

Many Thanks
Many Thanks
Ashley

No it does not support RDS.

Quote:3 - Will NPVR push RDS details to XBMC?
As per above - no RDS anywhere.

Quote:4 - I assume i will need more than one radio card to allow me to have different radio stations running?
It depends on the source. DVB/ATSC radio stations only need a single tuner per frequency, and there can be multiple radio stations on that same frequency. For other types of radio, yes, one tuner per station.

Only if they're digital DVB/ATSC radio stations. All other types of radio require one tuner per stream.

Thats for the fast response...

Are you planning to implement RDS in the radio stream?
So i understand this, if i want to listen to 96.5FM on 3 TVs i would need 3 radio cards so each one would tune to 96.5FM (i am guessing this is how NPVR would work, once one tuner is used it cant be used again even if the station is the same one)?
Many Thanks
Ashley

I wasn't planning to do anything with RDS. There hasn't really been any demand for it. I think you're maybe the second person that has asked about it in the last 10 years.

I know a lot of tuners don't support RDS. Also, there isn't a standard interface for accessing RDS info, so this would make it a relatively big job, since I'd need to do a specific implementation for each and every FM chipset I'd want to support.

That's correct for FM from an analog tuner. As mentioned, digital tuners listening to DVB/ATSC radio do not have that limitation.

I had a feeling this might be the case.
Many Thanks
