I am using XBMC as the frontend on a RPi with OpenElec. The Pi is connected to a wireless bridge which I have used to connect a SageTV extender in the past and had no issues. My problem is when I try to watch livetv with NPVR I get no tuner available if I select a HD channel first. If I start with a SD channel, it takes bout 9-10 seconds but connects. I can then change to HD or SD channels and it seems to be much more responsive 3-5 sec per channnel change. Any reason why the startup is so slow and/or errors out? Is there anything I can do to tweak/improve?

I am pretty sure the wireless connection is a bit of the problem because I don't see the same issue on my PC which is hard wired. However, the connection has been fast enough for SageTV and I also tried MythTV as the backend to XBMC and don't seem to have the same issue.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

SageTV doesn't even have an XBMC PVR client. If you want a closer comparison I'd suggest using the X-NEWA live tv options.

That being said there is a bug in Gotham version of the NextPVR addon, that should be fixed in 13.2 and it sounds like you have hit it Do you still have the trouble when timeshifting is turned off?

I was using SageTV with an extender (HD200) not as an XBMC front end...the main point being that I have successfully used other products without issue on the same wireless bridge so either NPVR needs more bandwidth or there is something else at issue. I will try 13.2 but I am using the OpenElec stable release. Unfortunately it does not have the most recent NPVR add-on. Any idea if I can download the most recent one somewhere and use in 13.1?

Thanks for the help.

13.2 might help if turning off timeshifting helps in 13.1

I hope you are not expecting the RPi to perform as well as a HD200 though, you have to evaluate it for what it is, NextPVR does work better on many other clients.

Truth is I don't watch a lot of livetv...mostly recordings and such. XBMC seems to perform very well with my video library, although as you point out live TV is a bit of a weak spot but not the most important thing for me.

With that said, what other clients would you recommend? Are they NPVR clients or XBMC?

Thanks

Since you aren't talking livetv how to you find video playback on the RPi via Libraries or through the addon?

The issue I am having is with LiveTV only. I just don't plan on using LiveTV much but would like it to work when I do.

I updated to a beta release of OpenElec which has 13.2 RC1 of XBMC. Better but still doesn't like to work the first time. I have a feeling this has to do with some kind of timeout setting in the addon. Maybe this will get cleared up with future updates?
