Well I don't know where to go from here. The spike in GBRecordingService is simply there and there does not seem to be a solution. I have re-installed 92.11 over the current install and that didn't fix anything either.

And no my problem with the Intervideo decoder (ivivideo.ax) is back. For some reason this decoder takes a fatal error periodically and kills GBPVR. This of course is the reason I dumped the Intervideo decoder and went to the Cyberlink instead which do not exhibit this problem. But using them means I cannot use Encoder Passthru so the audio/video slips out of sync over time. In either case I still get the "stuttering" due to some undefinable problem with GBPVRRecordingService.

I am at a loss for what to do next other than a complete disk reformat and reinstallation from scratch. And I really don't want to do that!

Is there no logging option that I can set in GBPVRRecordingService that will help isolate the problem?

Send me a set of you logs and note the exact times you think you see the spike based on you PC clock.

Wil Do.

I've now had to remove the Intervideo decoders, they have crashed three times in the past hour.

I've switched to the nVidia demo drivers and that's what's running now. But as with the Cyberlink using Encoder Passthru results in no audio whatsoever so now the deinterlace is running with None set.

I will send off the logs next time it freezes.

I now have the opposite issue..the video is fine but the audio stutters...when I try to set the "encoder pass-through" i just get static for audio. I have to disable the tv preview altogether..Is there an additional plugin so I can use hardware mpeg playback? I have an ATI 9800 w/256mb and all ATI cards have hardware dvd/mpeg playback capabilities...I also have the audigy 2 soundcard and a P4 3.0ghz w/1gb DDR400 ram.

You ATI card has hardware accelleration features (dxva), it doesnt have a full MPEG2 decoder. To take advantage of this, you still need to use a software decoder, but one that is able to use these dxva features. If you get the right combination, the CPU usage will drop a few percent, but thats about the only difference you'll notice.

I am new to GBPVR and I have encountered the same CPU spikes that you seem to be getting. On my System it appears to happen every 30 seconds while timeshifting and it corresponds to the RenewLease message in the GBPVR.exe.log file.

8/2/2005 7:15:46 PM.905 VERBOSE [2] RenewLease: 1
8/2/2005 7:16:16 PM.948 VERBOSE [2] RenewLease: 1
8/2/2005 7:16:46 PM.992 VERBOSE [2] RenewLease: 1
8/2/2005 7:17:17 PM.035 VERBOSE [2] RenewLease: 1

Once I start recording (timeshifting) it happens every 30 seconds. I can't say that I have any other problems with GBPVR. It works excellent for me except for when timeshifting. The actual recordings don't seem to be affected. I can play back videos just fine.

I am using an Athlon XP 2400+, ATI 9800PRO, 1Gig RAM with Hauppauge PVR-150.

Does this help any ?

Thanks,

Kyle

Another thing I found today. If I turn off "Use Live Preview" I get no audio at all, the same situation as if I use Live Preview and Encoder Pass-thru for deinterlacing. I don't know if this is any help in understanding my audio problem but I pass it along for your information.

A recap of the audio/video situation:

Audio: As it stands right now, in order to get any audio at all I have to use "None" for the deinterlace. This requires that about once an hour I have to exit Live TV and re-enter to get the audio back into sync

Video: Stuttering every 4-5 mnutes, the GBPVRRecordingService "spike" is still there and coincides with the stuttering. If I try to use Timeshifting when the "spike" occurs the image freezes and the audio sounds like an echo chamber with the last fraction of a second of audio repeating several times for several seconds.

Sorry, I've got no idea why you're getting this.

I noticed that if I watch tv slightly behind "live" tv while in timeshift mode, even by a few seconds, there are no stutters. The cpu spikes are still present, but the video is uninterrupted. This is good enough for now.

GB-PVR is an excellent program.

Thanks, again.
