Kyle

Thanks for the idea. I tested this and unfortunately it did not change anything.

This LoadNext24HourEvents() function doesnt do too much, and certainly doesnt seem to cause anything noticable on my machine, but since your logs point to this being a possible culprit, I've optomized this function to use cached information where possible. This should reduce the processing performed during this action to virtually nil.

One more thing I noticed is that the spikes only occur in the GBPVRRecordingService.exe while watching/recording tv. If I am just recording TV in the background without watching it, the CPU usage never goes above 4%. Is there possibly some other conflict happening on my system with the recording service while watching tv ? I have tried different codecs and I'm pretty sure the spike is always there (I will double check) but the codecs I am using now are the ones that come with WinDVD7 and seem to work the best for me.

Thanks again,

Kyle

Do you have many recording scheduled for the next 36 hours?

No. None when I copied the above log files. Like I said, cpu usage remains under 4% while recording only. Spikes only happen while watching and recording.

Is it looking through my TV guide, even though I haven't scheduled any recordings? My TV guide is huge. I need to trim the channels down to what I actually have. It's currently set to all Dishnetwork and it takes an hour or more to update and "parse".

Thanks.

Sorry. I didn't mention that I think the TV guide is set to download 2 weeks of information at a time. I will try trimming it down.

I just cut my TV guide listing down to about 25% of what it was (now it's actually correct). The spike now only goes up to about 30% and doesn't cause any problems with time shifting. Also, the TV guide views instantly when before it took a few seconds. Thanks for getting me going in the right direction.

I don't know if this helps, but I thought I would pass along some additional things I've noticed in testing:
1. The stuttering occurs in both Live TV and DVD
2. When first running Live TV the stuttering will occur several times within the first minute or so and then settles down to about 5 minutes apart.
3. IF I exit Live TV and let the system sit idle at the Main Menu for 5 minutes or so when I return to Live TV the stuttering is gone and does not recur
4. If I then exit to the menu and return to Live TV the stuttering apparently does not return.
5. It does not appear to make any difference which way I get to TV, either from the Main Menu or via the Guide.

As a general conclusion it APPEARS that if the system sits idle at the Main Menu for an interval greater than the "stuttering interval" (about 5 minutes or so) then the stuttering does not appear to be a problem.

As I said I don't know if this helps to in any way but I thought I would pass it along in the event that there was some hidden problem.

I spoke too soon.

4) If I then exit to the menu and return to Live TV the stuttering DOES return.
I just didn't wait long enough

I have found that the video "stuttering" problem only occurs when the Web Server is running. If the server is stopped the problem of CPU usage spike stops immediately. (See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=2030)
