Been playing around with YAMMM and Media Center Master to create metadata for my Videos folders but it's been a bit unsatisfactory.

YAMMM creates XML files whose contents consist only of the title - it has options to create NFO files for XBMC and XML files for Windows Media Center while the NFO files are full of data but NPVR doesn't use them.

In contrast, MCM creates fairly rich XML files but NPVR doesn't seem to use those either, even if they have the same root name as the movie file.

What experience can others offer?

You might need to delete the contents of C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Thumbs and try again. This directory contains cached data.

I use MediaInfo and it does a good job as the GUI let you pick what you want to capture and it is free.

yep I have used this for a couple of years for grabbing movie art and info (into an .nfo) file. They run a rebuild in the movies plugin and it loads up all the new movies and fanart.
You can configure it for both movie folders and tv show folders. they seem to update it quite frequently.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Will try some of these once I get back home...

Just looking at the specs for this - it looks good but will it save xml files? As far as I can see, nPVR ignores NFO.

Unless some voodoo is happening behind the scene that I am not aware of (it is possible) the video plugin processes .nfo files just fine. The movies plugin definately does (by design).

It does support nfo files. Unfortunately there is lots of different format nfo files out there, so hard to know which ones will work.

Please note though - if you update the metadata, you'll need to delete the contents of C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Thumbs. This directory contains cached data (images and metadata).
