My advice would be ... Set the recording folder in Settings --> Recording to any folder on the C: drive. Start a recording by selecting a current show in the TV Guide and selecting Record. Use Windows Explorer to check that a .ts file is created in the folder on the C: drive. Change the recording folder in Settings --> Recording to a folder on the NAS and start a second recording of a currently showing programme. Use Windows Explorer to check that a .ts file is created in the folder on the NAS. You should have one show recording on C: and one show recording on the NAS. If the show is not recording to the NAS then permissions seems the most likely culprit.

The C drive works fine the NAS drive Sad does not. I am not sure how to do this. I am not that good with permissions. When I tried what I found on the net the service would not start. So far batting zero on this one. I am also missing a couple of channels from the Schedule direct. The over the air channels are WAY out of sync.
Wonder what would happen if I changed my area code. So basically things still not grand here.

You haven't sent your logs since you moved to \\IP\Sharename notation. That would give us a clue.

What make and model is the NAS? I'm sure that we can get the permissions correct.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have a Raspberry Pi with a USB drive connected to it running Samba.
I am not sure that NextPVR knows how to deal with that.
I can access the drive from anywhere on my network and even XBMC can play and write files to it from the same PC that is running
NextPVR. NextPVR is running on a Windows 7 PC hardwired to the network on a gigabit backbone.

NextPVR doesn't need to know how to deal with that. Windows does. All NPVR does is say "hey windows, open this file for writing"... whether Windows can do it or not has nothing to do with NPVR.

You need to set the permissions on your NAS share to allow any user to write files. NRecord runs as [Local System], NOT your regular windows user. If you must you can set NRecord (NPVR Recording Service) to run as your regular user in Services, but there have been odd consequences to doing that in the past (no I can't say for sure whether there'd be any issue with that now... no one regularly tests that setup).

I'm actually running the recording service as my own user on all my installations, it has worked flawless so far. BUT you need to be an administrative user of cource.

I have the recording service running as my logon user on my backup/test NPVR server - likewise no problems.
