Basically im looking for a solution for playback on media players other than a pc

I have tried many different players now and skipping ts files seems to trip most of them up in different ways.I am not a fan of having to transcode but I see no other option.

What I need to achieve is
Needs to be quick
file size doesnt worry me (don't like compression square black boxes annoy me)
Time line needs to be correct (raspberry pi shows all sorts of sizes means skipping is bad after half way samsung tv/bluray similar)
File name needs to be the same so comskip will work(dont want auto cut as its not always perfect)

So what do others use and what are your results?

I don't help with transcoding too many variables and it is going to be slow. Remuxing might help with bad ts timelines this is pretty good http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR

Hi Stu,

I don't transcode, and use a media player to watch the original TS files created by NextPVR. There may be differences in the TS format between US and New Zealand broadcast, but I don't have any issues with playback, regardless of the broadcast format (I record 480p, 720p and 1080i). The only issue I have is when I'm watching a program that is still recording (which my previous system had no problem with, as it recorded to Mpeg2 on the fly).

I receive with an HDHomeRun3, nPVR runs on a pretty lame Pentium4 and records onto a Synology NAS, and I play back on a Dune Smart-D1.

So maybe there is hope for your media-player configuration. What player are you using? Some have poor support for TS files.

From what I have experienced, transcoding and creating a new .mp4 file is a lengthy process. I used to use a postprocessing.bat routine using handbrake, but the process would fail at times. Granted at that time I was using a dual core pc with 4 gb of ram. The only thing I need to transcode is for a Roku box in the bedroom. I now use Plex media server on my NPVR htpc and Plex transcodes on the fly without needing to create an .mp4 file. Upgraded the puter to an amd 6 core cpu and 8 gb of ram and works the best so far. The Plex Roku channel is very user friendly, and simple. The only issue that I have is that .ts recorded shows from NPVR are in a naming format that Plex can't understand. I have a postprocessing.bat file that renames it to the proper format in order for Plex to recognize the file. Works most of the time but occasionally fails. I also run a parallelprocessing.bat routine for comskip. For downloaded .mp4 movies, my setup works perfect every time.

I would look into this. I was running into playback and skipping issues a lot, especially with certain programs (SNL and live sports) until I started running all my recordings through Quick Stream Fix in VideoRedo (which I think does about the same thing as TsMuxer). If you output to the same format, it only adds a few seconds to the postprocessing process.

I now run the QS Fix first and then Comskip as per normal after that.
